Slackdoe, Kay-Kay, and plowboy are right.

The M1911 is no longer in the inventory, and there are no parts or ammunition for it either. We're talking regular Army here. What SF does is what SF wants to do.

Latitude in what gear you use is entirely up to your unit, but isn't all that much. You may use different kind MOLLE pouches, for example, or an ALICE ruck instead of a MOLLE ruck if your command is forgiving. You may even get away with having a personally owned set of optics on an issue weapon. It all depends on your Chain of Command.

But you will never, ever be allowed to substitute issued ammunition, even for variety in the same caliber (unless that was also issued and mil-spec) or swap issue weapons out for personally owned ones or ones that you are not assigned and signed for, ever, regardless of how you feel about them.

the standard issue weapon for most military branches is the 9mm berreta because of the ease of use and the fact that it has a saftey the Colt .45 cal 1911 models years ago didnt come with a saftey. and the beretta is more reliable in desert conditions ease of use is defined by user freindly and feild stripping capabilty

i seen that report myself the new 1911 models are a lot more reliable and more user freindly

no but the army is looking at going back to the .45 caliber and do away with the 9mm. Last i heard they were still testing out different models. Also only certain jobs or positions can carry handguns.

6 years ago when I retired,What you got was determined by where your at, in which unit, and what part of the world. I personally hated the M-16 due to jamming when it gets dirty, a constant check over of your weapon.

no, not the army. but certain elite units in the marine corps, use Kimber Warrior 1911 .45's. Smart move, too.
