Fruits & veggies of course. I know it's hard to get kids to eat them sometimes. You may have to get creative. Peanut butter on celery, a caramel dip for apple slices.
Low fat butter on broccoli or carrots.
I hate fruits & veggies, always have, but I've been talking to my dad about what I can do to make myself want to eat them so I can set a good example for my son.
Good luck to you.

I can tell you what to avoid. You don't specify your child's age. But this advice pretty much holds true with any age. Avoid prepackaged foods that contain hydrogenated oils (trans fat), MSG, and sodium nitrites. Limit the foods that contain added sugar. Really limit high fructose corn syrup. Also limit foods that contain artificial colors.

Basically, teach your child to eat as natural as possible. Buy ingredients and cook. If you child wants cookies then bake them, don't buy Chips A'hoy. If she wants pancakes then make them, don't buy microwave pancakes. If you limit the amount of prepackaged foods then you'll have a healthy child with a very reduced risk of heart and health problems later in life. Lead by example. Most prepackaged foods are actually junk food. If you limit this you'll also find that you're fit because of it. The simply truth is that we don't really need those convenience foods. We, as a culture, have been raised to believe that the convenience foods are normal. We've convinced ourselves that they're healthy. Deep down we know they're not but we fool ourselves rather than take the time to make healthy choices.

Teach by example that an apple is yummier than a twinkie. If your child asks questions then answer them. My oldest son is 6 and he understand why we eat the way we do and he is already a label reader. Don't just tell your child she can't have something. Explain why you make the choices you do. She'll understand.

Good luck.

Whole foods. That means avoid refined foods like white bread, refined sugar etc and include lots of fruits, veggies and whole grains. Water is the healthiest drink for everyone.
