Depends on what part of Scotland you are travelling from and what day of the week, however here are some average journey times for you based on an Edinburgh - Swindon journey..

6hr 20 mins (via London)
7hr 05 mins (not via London)

This is based on Monday to Friday, if you are travelling at weekends then allow extra time for engineering work.

Fares wise, if you can book in advance then a single via London will start from £30.50 and £62.00 not via London.

These fares can be booked on line, if you go via www.nationalrail.co.uk you won't pay a booking fee.

Haven't done the journey in a while but from Glasgow to Swindon takes around 6 to 6 1/2 hours on the timetable - longer in reality. I think its Virgin Trains - change at Bristol - good luck.

It depends on where in Scotland you start from, I live in the Western Isles which is 200 miles north of Glasgow and you would need a ferry which is 3 hours,
