Ascities is a build up of fluid in the abdominal/peritoneal cavity and it is very common in people with alcoholism. Your doctor will drain the fluid off and it will be sent to a microbiology lab for a cell count and culture. You are only at risk if the ascitic fluid develops an infection as this can lead to renal failure or death if untreated.

Your doctor will not give you a liver transplant if you continue to drink. You really need to seek professional help to battle you addiction. Its obvious you don't want to die, if you continue to drink excess alcohol your not going to get any better. People with alcohol problems are more susceptible to infection because the alcohol affect their immune system. Your ascities can be treated and cured, but excessive drinking causes cirrhosis of the liver. If you can prove to your doctor that you can stop drinking and enrol in a programme then they will put you on a waiting list for a transplant.

I know alcoholism is a horrible addiction and one that is very difficult to overcome. I hope you get the help you need.

Good luck

well if you stop drinking you may have a better chance of not dying or before it turns to cirosis.Chances for a liver transplant are very few in my opinon a friend of mine was on a waiting list for a few years and sadily to say he didnt make it. The best thing to do is to ask a Doctor.

C'mon already. A concern like this should be brought to your doctor's attention and you will want to see a liver specialist at a liver transplant facility. This is not something for YA to address!

Read the chapter on liver problems (#16 on pg 170) in Adelle Davis' book Let's Get Well. She has a lot of good advice on the subject, as do Murray and Pizzorno in Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine.
STOP DRINKING ALCOHOL!!!!! Hope you have a good doctor. Good luck and God bless!
