microwaving on paper plates is fine, I do it all the time!
just don't microwave plastic plates, who knows what kinds of chemicals would come off of them!
WHHHOOOPPPS.. may I change my answer? I was just doing some research on this, check out
http://sneakykitchen.com/Ten_commandments/microwave_safety.htm
"All paper products are manufactured with chemicals. Never use grocery bags, paper plates, newspapers, butcher's wrap or other paper items to heat food. The microwave can cause chemicals in these products to transfer into your food. Use white paper towels only if the label states they are microwave safe"
Looks like I'll be using regular ceramic plates from now on..!

Microwaving a paper plate will be fine. That kind of paper won't catch fire in a microwave.
DO NOT, under ANY circumstances, microwave an Arby's sandwich WITH the wrapper still on!
Unlike at McDonalds, Burger King, etc., Arby's uses a foil in their wrapper. IT CATCHES FIRE! Luckily, I was close enough I could stop the microwave before it was a full-fledged fire.

Sure they didn't microwave plastic plate? Sounds like rubbish to me. Paper towel works better anyway.

I ain't dead yet, but it can make the paper plate soggy. The best thing is a regular ceramic plate. I tried a glass plate once and it broke. I haven't tried plastic yet.
