Ask the vet to do a skin scraping. That way they will be able to microscopically see what is going on. There are two types of mange and that can be decided by the scraping. If it is sarcoptic they will have you treat him with a Lym dip but it will take a few dips to clear it up. The other kind of mange that is very common in puppies is demodex. That is caused by a flare up of mites that he already has on his skin. That can be treated with oral meds such as ivormectin or interceptor or with a dip. This will also take a while to clear up depending on severity and method of treatment.

You need to take him to the Vet to get a proper diagnosis.

The Vet will take a skin scrape and be able to tell you exactly what type of mange (if any) your pup has.

The Vet can then prescribe the correct treatment.

My pup had sarcoptic mange when I got him. It was successfully treated by the Vet.

I would strongly recommend that you do not treat your dog's condition without consulting a Vet as you might make it worse.

I you vet give you treatment for the pup it will be of a mild strength as the pup is young the dose or even a dip might be needed but if you are not satisfied with the treatment try another vet and a guard after treatment but if you don't do this bob Martin do a pest shampoo wash in that and continue but another thing even after treatment were was the mite picked up i am not sure were the grow but avoid it in future if it is grass keep away from grass good luck be patient it takes time and dedication they are the nicest dogs alive not as the media says

It used to be a pethidine scrub type of shampoo (think EU regs have band the type used to use) which you had to wear protective gear when washing 3 times week for first week, Then once week after that for a month. Also the vet would have taken a scrapping to see what type it is and if anything extra need to be done.

You need to take him to the vet. There is a medication that the vet gives you and they also can give them what they call a "dip" that kills the sarcoptic mites. You need to get it under control now cause it can get bad!!

how could he have picked it up so quickly? i didnt think they were allowed out for walks until 12 weeks after their last vaccination.

do you have foxes in your garden?

my dog went through this when he was about 6 yrs old. He had to have several 'dips'.
