I might have caught it from my dogs. They just got back from 2 weeks at the kennels.

Parvo is a dog virus, it is very contagious for dogs, but humans can't get it, nor can cats or other animals.

Hi, you didn't catch the parvo virus from your dogs. There is a strain of the virus which is called Human Erythrocyte virus. It is mostly seen in children and called "slapped cheek" syndrome as the characteristics are bright red cheeks. It is spread by the respiratory system. If you have parvo virus you should stay away from pregnant women as it can be transmitted to them and cause fetal hydrops or miscarriage.

I actually caught parvo virus 3 years ago when I was 25.

You normally develop a cough and possibly a sore throat at the beginning, I had none of these symptoms. You are infectious for about 14 days and can spread the infection on to other people. When the rash develops you are no longer infective, I was bright red from head to toe. After this I developed joint pain especially in my knees it was quite painful. This is known as viral arthritis and eventually goes away.

I was better about a week after my rash developed. So you should probably feel better after that. It only takes longer if you have other underlying medical conditions such as anaemia. If you are really unwell your doctor can prescribe treatment to make you feel a little better.

Hope you feel better soon, take care.

You did not get Parvo from your dogs.

There is a human parvovirus (B19), but this is NOT the parvovirus that dogs carry.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, humans CANNOT contract canine parvovirus (the virus that dogs can carry). If you are at all unsure about your symptoms, you need to consult your physician.
