well I'm sorry Miss, but you can't be a good parent if you breast feed a 6 year old, I think you're getting more out of it than you should be, with all the money you have saved you should see a shrink

The fact that it's a felony in your state disturbs me more than the mom nursing her school age children. I wouldn't do it personally, because 1. after a few years, my boobs would want a break and 2. I think that contradicts most parent's desires for thier children to develop emotionally and socially at a "normal" pace, not to mention 3. moms need to let go a little, too, and let their 5 year old be his own independant person, but I don't think the mom should be punished.

The average age of breastfeeding around the world is four years old. It's free, healthy, and always there when other food is not available. I don't think that weird, but it would be for americans to practice this when we have so many other resources.

What state do you live in where it's a felony to breastfeed after 2? I'm not at all into extended breastfeeding, but I don't think it's the right of the state to dictate when I stop.

I know of women who have breastfed their children until the ages of four or five years old simply because they were not allowed to use birth control and this was the only "way" to keep from getting pregnant.

Who is to say how old is too old for nursing? Some think it's disgusting from the start, some think one should stop after age one and others feel it's ok to continue on after that. I think it's all a matter of personal opinion. If it's right for you, do it. If it's not, don't. Geez...it's really not THAT complicated.

(Oh, and btw, it's spelled Kindergarten)

I know people who have done that simply because they have another child who is breastfeeding and the older child kicks & screams & won't go to bed at night unless they get to do it too. The child has no concept of it being wrong, and the mom feels it's a natural part of life. I guess you have to be a breastfeeding mother to understand that situation.

Where do you live? Breastfeeding after 2 is a felony? That is pretty nuts if you ask me.

I wouldn't breastfeed a 5 year old but there are countries where it is socially acceptable and I since it isn't hurting me I don't get my panties in a wad over it.

And to those who say that if they are old enough to ask for it they are too old...my kids learned to say "nunny" before they were even a year old. They sure could ask for it but they were still infants.

Ewwww no. Yuck. However I don't think the government has any rights putting a limit on how old a child should be, cause some cultures breast feed longer while some don't at all. And there are more important issues like cyber pedophiles they should be going after. But that is gross, 5 is way too old.

I heard a story on the Dr Phil show of a woman who gave birth to a second child and started breast feeding her 4 year old again as well as her newborn. If she didnt the 4yo would chuck a tantrum and go nuts. Believe me it happens, but yes i do believe it is wrong. I think the older kids just do it more for the attention than anything else. But the parent should know better.

Thats like sending your 5yo to school with a bottle or a pacifier. You just wouldnt do it LOL!

I have to say nursing isn't effective birth control.

Also, in many countries, nursing occurs until a child goes to school. We Americans have made breasts into useless sex toys.

Anyway, I nursed my kids to almost two years, and I wish I could've hung in there to three. I don't know why she does it, but I don't judge her.
