I own a rottweiler and she is very sweet, can she be a little bossy, yep, but not overbearingly so. I've been around Boxers, and I have to say its like comparing apples and oranges here. Whereas Rottweilers really like to laze about, except when duty calls, Boxers are very energetic! They are also a lot smaller and I wouldn't really consider them a protection breed the same way one would consider a Rottweiler. That and I would have to say finding a good Boxer is going to be tougher then finding a good Rottweiler when it comes to health. Boxers are sweet and fun to play around with, but I would always choose a Rottweiler first.

While they are both working breeds, they are fairly different. Both need strong owners and are not good dogs for beginners. I breed boxers, and can tell you are are not for just anyone. They are very smart, but also stubborn and can be difficult to train because they get bored easily. They don't do well with non-assertive owners and *need a lot* of exercise. Bored boxers can get into a lot of trouble and you could end up with destroyed possessions. They are also very family oriented and what to be with you all the time. Seperation anxiety can be a problem with some. The average life span is 10 years; they have among the highest rates of cancer in all breeds, have 2 heart problems in the breed, tend to low thyroid and now that they are popular, we are seeing more hip dyplasia. If you want one, look for a breeder that health tests; test are listed on the breed club website. *Please* do not buy from any one that doesn't health test or know what the health issues are in the breed. You don't want a dog that will cost you a fortune in vet bills or drops dead young. My website has more info on boxers. I have friends that breed Rotts, and they have some serious health issues, a big one being hip dysplasia. Being popular for a number of years hurt the breed. Also, some insurance companies will *not* issue coverage for Rotts in home owners insurance (banned breeds list). The list varies by locality and insurer, but still a concern.
Research each breed carefully, and make sure that's going to be the right breed for your temperament and lifestyle. You should also check into breed rescue. Both breeds are over flowing in rescue :-(

Boxers are very nice to look at, and easy to train. Rottweilers require a lot of diciplin and devoted training. Boxers are generally cheaper as rottweilers can get massive in size and eat much more than boxers. It mostly depends on the owner and how close the bond is. Any dog can be trained to do anything.

I've never owned neither, but the dog also depends on how you treat it. Any dog can be perfectly sweet and loving with proper socialization, training, daily love, care, shelter, etc. If the dog is to be left outside, the dog shouldn't be bought. An outdoor dog is a bored dog, which means digging, jumping the fence, biting itself, fleas, ticks, and aggressiveness.
See this page for boxer information: http://www.boxer-dog.org/
And this one for Rottweiler: http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/rottweiler.htm
Best of luck :).

I would definetly say boxer - having owned one myself and known several others. They are really sweet and loving. Being a big dog they need lots of exercise and room to play. But not any more than a Rottweiler. But I've found they have a sweeter disposition and are easier to train.

Rottweiler. We have a Rott mixed with a few other breeds, one of which could be Boxer or pit bull, but I'm not sure. He is really kind, smart and bright eyed. And soOO handsome! His other breeds include German Shepherd and Akita. He's a big brute type, but really so caring

A rotty is a very gentle good family dog, If they are raised with a responsible attitude and get plenty of social experience they are calmer and easier to handle than boxers.

depends on what you want it for, you are more likely to have insurance problems if you have a rott, boxers are better family dogs - real good with kids
