It is the amomination that causes desolation standing in a holy place that you are talking about. In the time of Christ Jesus warned his diciples before his death to flee to the mountains when they would catch sight of that. That turned out to be the roman armies attacking the city of Jerusalem and demolishing the temple or "Holy place" . They first surrounded the city with pointed stakes so no one could get out. Then they attacked and all but over threw the city when suddenly without apparent reason they retreated alowing those who had heeded Jesus' words opportunity to flee to the mountains. They then returned 3 and 1/2 years later and took over a million jews into captivity and killed many more. Jeruslaem was trampled on by the nations.
