There are two basic things which characterize Pentecostal churches and differentiate them from other Protestant groups: the first is the belief in a "Baptism of the Spirit" and the second is a belief in resultant charismata ("Gifts of the Spirit," like speaking in tongues).
Because of the highly emotional nature which characterizes their services, they acquired the derrogatory label "holy rollers," a term which is not used as much today but which had wide currency in the first half of the 20th century.
Major Pentecostal churches include: the Assemblies of God, the United Pentecostal Church International, the Association of Vineyard Churches, Church of God in Christ, and the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship. The Assemblies of God is currently the largest Pentecostal denomination in the world while the Church of God is both the oldest Pentecostal denomination and the largest black Pentecostal group in the world.
Important Pentecostal leaders in the United States include: Benny Hinn, Jimmy Swaggart, Jim Bakker, and Pat Robertson. The highest political office attained by a Pentecostal is the Attorney General of the United States under President George W. Bush: John Ashcroft.
When the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues, like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. (Acts 2.1)

They will try to take over every part of your life...very judgemental and domineering group. It will do nothing but cause strife in your home life. Will divide the family, believers against non-believers. It's subtle but it's there. Raised in it. Got out as quick as I could. Remember thinking as s child "how can these people be so brainwashed".

Honey the less you know about this one, the better off you are,
No matter how much you want to know, well, not this one,
Can you believe, they do not let women ware Makeup, only a wedding band, no rocks,,,, no.
show any skin except there hands and face,
Long hair, up in a bun,
and well, they love tea party's and gossip, and they love women's meetings, and love to gossip,
Its a club, ya, the bible is something they read, in mans understanding and not Gods.
Its a club, a great big social club.
Christ is not there.
No, he loves them, but no,
they do not show forth love, so its just a glorified club,

Pentecostals are what is referred to as fundies. They are Christian Fundamentalists. They take every single word of the buy-bull literally. They do not allow the women to be around the men unless they are married, they don't allow women to cut their hair or wear jeans, or wear makeup, or wear anything where their body will show, i.e. they can't wear a skirt that will show their ankle, they can't wear short sleeved shirts, etc. The men have to be clean-shaven. They believe anybody or anything that doesn't follow the way they preach is going to hell. In short, just think of Fred Phelps and Jerry Falwell, and that's what a pentecostal is.

Every human has to find their own belief, penticostal menas they believ in speaking in tongues, and they believe like the things that happened in Acts chapter 2 still happen today, And so do I, But I don`t believe I have to wear dresses, or skirts down to my ankels, And I can cut my hair, so you see not all penticostals believe the same way, the Bible says about cutting hair, If it causes contintions in the church, we have no such customes...

As a young adult, I made the mistake of walking into a pentacostal church ONCE. They were screaming, running up and down the aisles, speaking in tongues, and literally rolling around on the ground. Hey! Maybe thats where the term "holy roller" came from!

dear tori my aunt was a pentecostal and I also have a cousin who is a pentecostal preacher, there are different types of pentecoastals, my aunt only believed in wearing dresses, no jewelry, only a watch was acceptable, and so does my cousin who is the preacher she is a female, they believe in slaying of the holy ghost and talking in toungues during church. talking in toungues is where they talk in some kind of foriegn language and they say that they speak to god and they believe that god puts it on their hearts to interpret that message directly from god. after the person finishes speaking out the person that says that they feel lead to answe gods message then interprets the foriegn language. and you have the ones where they speak in tongues and then interpret the language themselves they call it holy ghost tongues, there is alot of hellfire and brimstone teachings in their churches you cannot wear makeup either. and if you like alot of prophecy type settings that is what it is about. they believe in footwashing which is where they have those once a year to cleanse, and pray for healing, and in some of the churches mostly the holiness church they do not believe in women cutting their hair, the men sit at the head of the table and after he places the food on his plate the women and children come next. the husband makes all of the decisions, the women are there only for the man to assist. the holy ghost filled churches you will hear alot of hellfire and brimstone stories and not enough things about heaven, and they also believe in backsliding, that means if you start going to church and you decide to quit, they believe that it is seven times harder to get back with god, in the holiness branch they believe if you backslide thats it no more chances. you go to hell, they beleive that if you die with any sin on your soul, you will go to hell, example, if you got in an argument with a freind and you crashed your car and died you would go to hell. you cant wear fingernail polish, or perfumes and you are not allowed to color your hair. like i said there are different branches some strictor than this. my dads family were pentecoastals, I am not I chose another religion. any q let me know. hope this helps . good luck I live in the bible belt so I know alot about them
