Consider also that it's taken us FIVE YEARS to equal the death toll incurred on the SINGLE DAY that has served as our reason for fighting in the first place.
I agree, death is a tragic but ever-present element of war. And seeing as how it has been 5 years, nearly our entire military force has volunteered to enlist or reenlist/extend with this particular risk on the front of their minds (I'm sure there's a small percentile who haven't had the option to get out since then because of contract set-up)--but they did it anyway because they believe in more than just number crunching. What do you believe in?

Do you know that 150 Americans die each day in car accidents?
When is the last time you ever protested against driving or demanded an end to people being allowed to drive?

I am more interested in Kandahar, actually. Iraq is perhaps a lost cause, like Somalia. The U.S. should never have gone in there to begin with. The death of soldiers is tragic, but so is the loss of civilians.

Did you know that during WWII, there was an average of 2000 deaths per day?
On the days of the major attacks, there was an average of 2000 deaths per HOUR.
With that in perspective, what we have lost in this UNCONVENTIONAL war is minimal. All of our death's are serious, but as with all war, there is the cost of death.
Also, I do believe that you are rounding your numbers. X number of days in Iraq / number of dead soldiers = Number of deaths per day. Not so... There are many days where we have no deaths. More and more everyday we see this trend.
