Indians have many cultures and traditions because of the many different tribes. Each one has it's own beliefs and system that they follow. Though they may have some similarities, most are opposite of each other. For example, each and every family has similar structure, but the adult figure or figures has different beliefs on how to raise their own kids.

Cultures and tradition have something to do with languages as well. India has more than 1500 languages - this is no joke!! So, common sense tells me that same language group same culture and tradition. Since India has more than 1500 language groups, one would expect an increase also in culture and tradittion in comparison to other countries.

Hope that helps you add to your essay!! All the best for your essay.

Try to start where many think they came from and then talk about how they have different gods for different situations. Like one tribe thought that a Coyote taught all the animals and there people how to live and a (i think) tree or something like that, was the all powerful. Some had different gods for healing, its a long story the further some tribes travelled different views came in peoples head and people followed what they thought culture should be.

To begin to understand the complex structure India one has to first realize that one is not talking of a simple "country". India is a sub-Continent, a vast area with uncountable ethnic groups. It was not until the advent of the British Raj and the introduction rail communications that India started to become a united country in its own right. Joining the many "countries" that are now included in the name "India" did not remove their individual characteristics and religions but merely joined them into one homogeneous political unit. The British control of India was highly intelligent, it never ever tried to take over the religious beliefs of the native inhabitants. As a result modern India has developed into a multi religious and mulit ethnic state that enjoys the acceptance of all its religions and ethnic groups. From being an area of nothing but tribal interaction it has become a world leader in development and a country that can hold its head high among the countries of the developing world.

If you're talking American Indian, I'd say it's because you're looking at an enourmous continent with just a few people scattered around.

If you're talking India...well, the answer's not too different.
