If you're having sex, it seems to me that you are clearly more than friends. I'd be straight with him: Either one, you'd like to take the relationship to the next level and begin seeing each other exclusively, or two, I'd tell him the sex has to stop, and you should truly, just "be friends". It's certainly no fair to the party on the other side of the long-distance relationship for you to be having sex with your "friend".
