(1) You cannot drink if you're under 21. If you're stationed OCONUS, you still follow Federal guidelines, as well as respecting SOFA when you're out there partying. What happens with "wink and nod" at your unit is entirely up to you and whoever gives you the alcohol to begin with. You get caught, you're done. You come to work drunk, or worse yet, don't show up for work and are found drunk? You're through.

2) General Order #1 (which I first heard issued by CENTCOM out there in March 2003) absolutely forbids sexual relations of any sort by servicemembers while deployed. One again, "wink and nod" at your unit is entirely up to you and whoever you're with. Once again, you get caught, you're done. You get caught committing adultery or worse, or get caught infected with an STD? You're through.

It isn't like the "old days" - whatever they were, anyways.

Lou, hit the nail on the head. Legally no you can't drink if you're under 21. However, if theirs a platoon or ship party such as Christmas time, you can gaurantee at least 4 or 5 kegs to be on hand, and they don't give a rats @$$ if you are under 21 it's drink up. The only way they would discharge you for drinking underage is if you showed up for duty and were still under the influence. Drinking or being drunk while on watch is a SERIOUS offense. But if you keep it in moderation you'll be fine.

And as far as getting some while overseas. You well most definitely be able to get as much as you can handle. And probably a lot you can't handle.

What a thing to ask! They are all over the world! Just don't let it drop off when you get something there is no cure for!

I was allowed to drink on base under 21 when I was in! I was drinking that rot gut at 17! Used to buy moonshine outside of Ft Jackson during basic! When in Korea they could have cared less how old you were!

Be careful of alcohol. It can get you into serious trouble, now and later! Plus it burns your brain cells. Look what it did to Bush!

Why are you asking all the questions you shouldn't be concerned about?

All depends
If you want to throw your future out the window, by all means have at it.
If you want to become a man and make something of yourself, I would suggest that you don't.
If you are caught drinking under age ( age varies depending where you are) you will get a "For the convenience of the Army" General Discharge, or worse depending on circumstances.

QUOTE
I was an E-6 in the Navy and you don't get discharged (even under 21) unless you have a PROBLEM with drinking. Know your UCMJ clown!

Best check with someone that has served in the LAST QUARTER CENTURY
C O W N ! ! ! times have changed. With both a daughter and a grandson serving in the military AT THIS TIME, I am kept well informed, AND I know the UCMJ quite well clown!!
And in the 7 years that my daughter has served (a T/Sgt in the AF BTW) every disiplinary discharge she has witnesed involved underage drinking/drug use

When I served any soldier on active duty could drink regardless of their age...but you had to do your drinking on base.

In the mid 1980's groups including MADD lobbied Congress and had the law changed to make the drinking age on post the same as the drinking age as the state the post is located.

As for your second question....I was in Iraq for 18 months but as a civilian.

Just like in a college dorm, if there's somebody around who is 21, it's easy to get alcohol, at least stateside.

There was a time when stateside bases adopted the drinking age of the state they were in. For example when I was in school at Keesler AFB in Mississippi, at the time the drinking age off-base was 19. So it was also 19 on base. My permanent posting after that, it was 21 because of the state I was in.
