They don't. They do have an excellent warranty plan as well and most all of their products have at least a 1 yr warranty.

Any mass produced product can fail at any time. I would rather have mine fail in the first 6 months (still under warranty) than on the day the warranty runs out.

Just happen to have both a Whirlpool washer and dryer that are about 23 years old. Did have to replace the heating element in the dryer about 7 years ago though.

A fridge that dies within six months is still covered under warranty. All products, however, have "planned obsolescence", which means they are designed to break down after a certean amount of time.

Your refrigerator should be under manufacturer's warranty. However, all products have, what is known as, planned obsolescence. Look that up on the Internet. It means that while we have the technology to build a light bulb that lasts forever, it is better for "business" to build a light bulb which needs replacing every-so-many-hours of use.
