Well friends are G-dog...so how about G-ma & G-pa :-)
Don't sweat the grandparents thing. What's cooler than getting to cuddle and play with the little ones all day and then Give Them Back..LOL.

You could go global too.
Dutch - Oma & Opa
Italian - Nonna & Nonno
Catalan - Avia & Avi

What's wrong with Grandma and Grandpa?? Honestly, I don't understand why some grandparents can't accept that fact and feel it's necessary to be called something else - something less specific. You could always just let them call you by your first names, of course. That would be "cool"... but very confusing to them (especially hard for their parents to explain when they ask why they don't have a grandma and a grandpa).

There's nothing wrong with being traditional!

Have you thought about adding the last name of the grandparents. example. Last name Smith. Mother Smith, Mom smith, Or pop (grandpa) , granddad, & grandmom. Mema & Bebob. or go by there first name. Most kids will come up with there own little name for thier grand parents you can play it by ear.
