My recipe has four kinds of layers: first the noodles, then the cheese mix [ ricotta cheese, parmesan cheese and spices], then the sauce mix [hamburger, ground sausage, sauce, and spices], then the mozzarella, and repeat all four layers. So the mozzarella ends up on top. And I always put a thick layer of the mozzarella on top. I buy and use way more cheese than the recipe calls for, so it is way more than a sprinkle on top.
Lasagna sounds good!

Just some sauce on top of the last layer of noodles - not as much as in the other layers. Sprinkle the cheese on top of the sauce.

Little bit of sauce on the bottom of the pan (so the noodles don't stick), noodles, sauce, cheese... repeat ending with sauce and a generous helping of cheese on top, bake on the bottom rack (so the cheese doesn't burn or get too crusty. Mmmmm!

I make mine with noodles as the last layer with only a little bit of sauce spread over the top (to stop the noodle from getting to hard) and then sprinkly cheese over top.

Sauce on top of the noodles or they will get too hard. Cheese is optional, but most people put it on. I would wait (for the cheese)until it is almost ready or it will burn.

When I make it, noodles on bottom, then sauce, and then the cheese, and then a second layer the same way.
