The Bilbe talks about a "Book of Life" that our names will be written in.

Do you really think there is a real book? If so, wouldn't there have to be a "pen of life" and/or "pencil of life" to write in it? (And an "eraser of life" to remove people who lose their salvation.)

Even humans use database software these days to keep track of large amounts of information, so wouldn't God be at least as high-tech as humans? If He does in fact use a "Database Of Life", would it be Microsoft or Oracle?

Realistically, the whole purpose of a book or database is to keep track of something, but couldn't God just keep track in His head? Would he really even need a book or database?

In either case, since about 10 billion people have lived on Earth, even if 10% received salvation that would be 1 billion, so if there were 500 entries per page (very small font!) there would need to be 2 million pages or a huge database.

Seriously though, do you think there is a real "Book"?

You are asking if the book of life is a physical thing that can be touched and felt.

My answer would be probably not, as God is all powerful and can and does keep all things in his "head" which is also not physically felt or seen or touched.

God uses words that we can understand,if he used words that we could not possible understand we would never learn anything.

We explain things to our children in words that they can understand. If your three year old asks where babies come from, you certainly wouldnt hand them a college textbook with the technical description of how a child is conceived.

It is the same way with God, he uses words we can understand for a process that we are yet unable to comprehend. But we do get the basic idea and understanding.

The Bible uses symbology to explain ideas that are difficult to comprehend otherwise. The book symbolises an object of truth: there is a certain set of those who will be saved. It is finite. The details of how this gets visualised, or even conceived, to the saved is not important. What is important is that some will say to God "thy will be done" and others will hear God say to them "thy will be done". There is logically a real book, but if you are expecting a bound copy of pages, then you must think that in Matt 10:16 when Christ said to be as wise as serpents that we should think like reptiles.

i might prefer to point out to all the posters above me who blindly categorize it as "punishment" that the commandment in simple terms states "Thou Shall not Kill." No conditional modifiers related. The asker has a thoroughly valid question. Being non-Christian, i would be unable to start to respond to, yet, unique poster, i don't think of you will discover any solutions for that one. in case you're a Christian, then you definately'll in simple terms would desire to be certain the thank you to handle it. in case you're on the fence, or non-Christian, then it rather is one extra count extensive type against the believability of the source of the religion. Edit: The NT would desire to be the classes of Christ, however the OT continues to be a area of the recognize God and should not be pushed aside because of the fact a conflict has been dropped at your interest.

So is this a question or just ramblings?
I'm not a church going Christian by any means, but it sounds a lot like you're trying to make fun of them, which isn't cool at all.

Do you ever consider that a concept such as a "Book of Life" is really a metaphor and not something so mundane as an actual physical book?

Come on man.

Yes there is a Book Of Life. It's talked about in the book of Revelation in the Bible.

God doesn't need to keep track of anything, we can speculate on the things of God, but the things that God does, we couldn't even come close in our imaginations.

No. There is not. Good question.

The word "Book" is translated to the word "TREE".

You are in the Tree of Life. Not Book of Life.

.Jesus Chist said, your "grafted". Grafted to what? a Book? Your only grafted to a Tree. You can be pruned.

You don't prune books.

Trying not to be annoyed at your sarcasm, I want to frankly answer your question with something you need to hear. Yes...there is a book of life. And unless you repent of your ways and accept Jesus as Lord....your name will not be in it.

Yes. The bible isn't clear as to how the info is entered or what is being entered. However, these issues are very unimportant in contrast to the fact of having your name written in that Book.
