Give your dog a bath with flea shampoo, or a flea dip! For your house, you can use a flea bomb. Also, a lot of pet stores now carry K-9 Advantix, Advantage and Frontline as well as the Hartz brand for flea protection on dogs.
Again, a good flea bath and/or flea dip and then purchase either K-9 Advantix, Advantage, Frontline or Hartz for flea protection after the bath. You can also buy flea powder for the dog. Another thing that you can get at the pet store is a powder (like the flea powder you put on dogs) that is for the dogs bedding & housing.

Be careful when using the flea sprays and shampoo you buy in your local store.
My dog went into convulsions from using Hartz brand flea spray.
If I had to buy something from the store before going to a vet it would be a flea treatment for cats.
Putting salt on sounds interesting and hopefully safe.
Also, if you have carpets, throwing Arm & Hammer detergent booster into them and vacuuming it up the next day will stop fleas from taking over your house.
Some dogs if they have had fleas for a long time will need a blood transfusion as they fleas can drain them.
In that case I would imagine using an over-the-counter flea medication could be extremely dangerous if your dogs system is now weakened.
Good Luck!

Get some frontline for your dog and spray somekind of flea spray or powder in your house and vacuum everything. Also get some flea powder or spray for your yard. If you're looking for a quick fix, wash your dog in Dawn dishsoap (no kidding, it really works!). Make sure to thoroughly wash all of the soap out of her coat. This technique won't last very long if there is a major infestation of fleas in your yard and house though.
A quick warning about the myth about garlic and fleas: Garlic is poisonous to dogs. It can cause a disease called "Heinz Bone Anemia". It is unclear how much garlic has to be consumed before it becomes toxic, but I would still be extremely cautious if you use garlic to get rid of fleas!

It's an interesting technique but rubbing dry salt on your skin and through your dog's coat will help to kill the fleas. I did it to my cat and it helped. Or if you don't mind running up to the store, there are over the counter flea treatments you can use, usually found in the pet aisle.
Good Luck with that!

Go to the store, get some flea shampoo, and give her a bath. That is a vet thing. And there are some 24 hr. Walmarts if you are not on the west coast, where most are still open.

Fleas are attracted to green light. If your dog has fleas, so does your household. Go to the pet store and look for this product (sorry, can't remeber the name) that has a green light and a sticky pad below it.It works. In the mean time, give your dog a fleabath.

Being it is late night you can one time or maybe twice and not harm your dog use people shampoo. But it will dry out the dogs skin if you do it too many times. But just flea shampoo is all you need not a vet run..

I know this might sound odd...but it is the "homeopathic" flea remedy... Wipe your dog down with lemon juice.... the fleas will run for the hills and get you through till monday... plus you wont have to worry about putting any unknown chemicals on your dog!
