There are people on our frontlines who probably should be in prison, they just haven't been caught for the monstrocities they've done. It would depend what kind of felony they were convicted of. You have people that have a felony for drunk driving or white collar crimes. I would think that there would be plenty of drawbacks such as them having security clearance, handling weapons etc. They should have a program to help the convicts rehabilitate themselves if they choose to be rehabilitated and have them go to war and make a difference. They could perhaps be given an opportunity that could change them for the better, and learn to become better men and women. Like with everything there are always going to be pro's and con's. Though I'm very tired of hearing we shouldn't be there, the war is useless. Women are able to educate themselves, and vote. Those people now have been given a right that they didn't have. When our men and women signed up to be in the military this is exactly what they trained for. Had the war not happened then we probably would of been through another 9/11 or worse. We definitely wouldn't be as safe as we are now. There are still things that need to be resolved, but it cant be done overnight, and unfortunately some people dont understand that. Just remember that if you're one of those who's complaining about the war just remember who's fighting for your right to express yourself. After reading some of the replies those set me off.........

A lot of guys in jail would love to join the military, yeah they should empty the prison and they should put all the sexual predators, women beaters and rapists on the very front line. Then the drug addicts, murders etc. there are so many choices.

Ship all the prisoners to Cuba. Forget about housing them for another 100 years!

They'd make the worse of soldiers.
But there are cases of judges at one time giving a young man a choise of joining up or having a petty crime on his record. It shaped him up, so he had a better life, and became a man, not some punk.

Great, send them and the illegal immigrants first.
Now how to stop them from running? and how do we control them?
People are worried about gays in the military, felony convicted rapists would be better? I'm confused...

I was in the military, Marines to be exact, and i would never want to fight along side of somebody that didn't want to be there and someone I couldn't trust and someone that could care less whether I lived or died. Not that that applies to all felons but you see what I mean though.

Convicts are in jail for a reason. I don't think I would want a child molester on the front line with me. Why would you want felon's to represent our nation?

Have you heard of the phrase "combat effectiveness"?
Drafts destroy that.

Maybe, Maybe as a form of a foriegn legion. Not as a replacement for what we have.

If you got a whole unit of violent criminals together in basic training, that could lead to a whole mess of trouble.
