Hi,

If it is a first time, yes. If the tube is just being changed, it should not cause any pain.
Keep in mind that if is it is a non-responsive person (in a vegetative state) they may already have pain relieving medications being administered (or via into intravenous) before you may have witnessed or placed the peg tube.

That depends if this is the first time the tube has been inserted. If it is, then sedation should be given. If not, and it is being re-inserted, then sedation is not necessary since the hole is already in place.

I would think if the person is conscious they would sedate him the first time, or if something "different" were happening when it was changed. I don't think the person needs to be sedated to have it changed like normal since the hole is already there.
