Good question- kudos to you!
As a C i think this war is very wrong but the U.S. Army can't leave Iraq- that would totally destroy what's left of the country
Yor country seems to be fighting for Bush's personal agenda. Did he actually say that God told him to do this?????? I will reserve my opinion on that one!!!
There is a "just war" doctrine but it doesn't apply here.
By recalling the commandment,"Thou shall not kill",our Lord asked for peace of heart and denounced all murderous anger andhatred as immoral. However, as long as the danger of war persists, governments cannot be denied the right to self-defence, once all peaceful efforts have failed.
There are a number of criteria to be met to "justify" war:
There must be a serious prospect of sucess
Damage caused by agressor on the nation must be lasting, grave, certain
all other means to end the conflict must be exhausted before ordering in troops etc;
the resulting good must significantly outweigh the evil in war.
Well brother, i hope that helps to answer your question
Peace

I believe that their are things that a Christian cannot do that are not necessarily the same as what a government cannot do. Scripture says that ALL governents are put in place by the hand of God. Scripture also says that we should fear the sword of government. The sword in that day and age was a symbol of justice through death. I'm really not sure about this but it appears to me that if the government of a Christian nation decides to go to war against a pagan government for the benefit of religious freedom that God may accept this as an action of a government whereas He would not accept it if an individual Christian were to take the situation in His own hands and choose to kill.

By the reasoning of some who have posted here the allies in WWII should not have gone to war against Germany, Italy, and Japan. Had the Christian government of the US not entered to war we would all be speaking German or Japanese. There would be no religious freedom which we have come to enjoy. We would either be held to an evil adulteration of Christianity (by the Germans) or we would be worshiping our ancestors (by the Japanese). I think sometimes Christian governments can stand up and make war against pagan goverments and be acceptable to God.

Wow. Just me doin some thinkin.

Of course all murder is wrong, but God would not want us to just sit by and let evil men slaughter His people. There were wars going on all throughout the Bible. Joshua six tells how God held the sun and moon still so the Israelites could defeat the Amorites. Exodus 17 talks about Israel defeating the Amalekites. (Exodus 17:16) "For hands were lifted up to the throne of the LORD. The LORD will be at war against the Amalekites from generation to generation." Judges 7 tells how God delivered the Midianites into Gideon's Hand. So, do I think killing is wrong? Yes. Do I think this war is wrong? Absolutely not, and I don't think God does either.

No it is not right but these people have been fighting with each other for generations as their idea of God says that HE made the land for them only. its a family war . where who ever sticks their nose in with out permission is most likely to lose it.
Plus they still do not like Christians as they are still mad about the crusades that came from England.
as for the answerer that used the sword drawing to answer the question . Yes you are right. But that is not a biblical thing it is something that everyone who picks up a weapon has to learn . that sooner or later you are going to meet up with someone better, younger, or luckier than you.Its a fact of life that needs no commandment from GOD its self evident.

As a Christian, I believe the war was based upon a lie: everyone knew there were no WMD. However it was politically (& thought in the long term also economically) to be advantageous to remove Saddam (the monster we created in the first place). How can anything based upon such a lie be right ?

Sorry...but any one who thinks the Iraq war was justified is fooling themselves.

It is neither a 'war' nor is the action just. If it was a 'war', the Geneva Convention would have been followed; the 'enemy' would have been identified. It is an 'action' by uniformed personnel against the un-identified persons not in a Uniform; may say that it is the Military versus Civilians.

I am a Christan and the reality is there is peace at times and there is war at times.....no one likes war but none the less it is inevitable.....I believe the commandment is for one personally as in not to go and kill brother or be angry and kill one...or out of jealousy you know that type of thing...but I do believe there are times when a nation must rise up in war against another due to helping others who cant help themselves etc.....the Bible is clear that we are not to get angry and sin....such as murder for our own satisfaction...but for the sake of a nation or a people in harms way ..yes we are to rise up and help......God does not expect his people to sit back and not help the helpless....Jesus wouldn't have turned his back on those that need help....and we should not either.....I think it is being very naive to think that Jesus doesn't want us to go to war to take a stand against evil done to those in this world...if it was so then there would be no good left...evil would have its way fully on earth...this war we are in now is needed...like it or not...if we dont stand up now we may not be able to later......

Of course the war is right. We are spreading christian values to the muslim heathens. You are taking the commandment Thou shalt not kill" out of context. Killing in the name of Jesus is ok.

I ask myself one question about what's going on in Iraq. That question is....do I think the world would be a safer place if Sadaam Hussein was still in power. The answer I keep coming to is no. That being said, I think this is more of a mess than even the Vietnam war...and I was alive during that one too. I don't know what else to say about it than that.

As a Christian no war is right, but then it's a long time since I met one. Plenty of people who got to Church but haven't understood Jesus' message.
