Teach your dog to sit and stay, practice it when company comes over. Also having your company ignore your dog should help. My German Shepherd does the same thing (it is a little larger of a dog so it is quite embarassing.) It is a very hard cycle to break however, it takes time and patience. I would recommend either obidence school or buying some books that teach obidence. As for the barking, I know this sounds mean, but it works good. Buy a small squirt bottle and fill it with water and a table spoon of vinegar, and whenever your dog barks say 'quiet' and spray it once in the face, after a few days your dog will understand. Good luck!

A muzzle and super glue on his paws...lol...All dogs jump and bark. They are expressing their defense of their territory. They see someone coming, give them a sniff and all is ok. If you yell at him while he's doing this, the dog has no idea why you're yelling and may bark more. You need to confort the dog and talk softly to him. Hold him down, hold his nose and jaw when comforting. There will be resitance for awhile, but with repition, the dog may only give you a little whine when someone walks through the door.

One of the best things is a product called rescue remedy. It is found at the health food. Just a spray on the top of their nose will calm the dog right down. It is used for humans and animals for anxiaty, hiperative behaviour. There is no lasting effects and totally safe. You can look it up on net. Again its called Rescue Remedy. It is in a yellow and black bottle. Cost is about $15-$17. Well worth it.

check out the Caesar Milan? "Dog Whisperer" site, he has handled this a lot. Check it out, it will give you just what you need and more (he has a television show too if you get it in your area, but oh my, this man is EXCELLENT with all the answers in this field) Good luck and don't give up, your dog will be happier and so will you; don't forget, any pet isn't disposable like a paper cup because some bad habits arise, you can conquer them together.
