You are supposed to walk to the side you drive on so be careful when traveling abroad :) Tho doesn't it seem like everyone just wants to plow through you lol sometimes I feel completely invisible and like I am always the one to move too. Nice to know I am not alone.

Interesting question! It seems that good, humble people will move aside. But, selfish people will keep walking their own path, without any regard for anyone else's basic right. You seem to be the kind, thoughtful person. Anyone who refuses to share the space is being selfish. Don't worry, selfish people may get some things but they are never truly happy. They have no sense of satisfaction of doing the right thing. Sometimes doing what is right and good and unselfish might cause suffering, but inside they know they did what was right and a good conscience is the best thing to have. People who are selfish are never at rest inside. Yes, their conscience may get so seared, it's as if it's stopped working, so you may think it doesn't bother them, but how many true friends do selfish people have? They will reap what they sow.

In the US, the general rule of thumb would be to keep to the right, thus avoiding this situation. If there is passage for more than one person in each direction, the slower "traffic" should keep right.
Although I'm not certain, since this seems to be based on the rules of the road for automobiles, in England or Europe it stands to reason that the opposite would hold true, and one would keep to the left.

If its a really big guy with a scowl on his face act passive and just as you touch drop your weight and continue to move forward without interrupting your flow of motion.
Then while helping him up off of his butt, apologise by saying "sorry lil' fella I didn't see you there." and ruffle his hair like he's a little boy. The next time you pass that guy he'll mind his manners and move to the right.

Human behavior is strange isn't it? Well, according to psychologists, the moment our eyes meet the brain interprets who is the dominant individual and then we react to the conclusion, most of the time your brain must be telling you that you are not the dominant individual and you move, when you react against what the situation brought to each consciousness, and do not step aside, the other individual gets upset because their brain lied to them in that particular instance. Of course, it could also be a simple fact that you have better manners than most and choose to be polite.

Think about it in terms of driving. If you are in the wrong lane, you move.
If not, then they should move. If they bump into you, simply turn and say - You're excused. They might get the hint, or, if they're really stupid, they won't even recognize the fact you were speaking to them!

I've always followed the same ettiquette as I use in driving; the courtesy goes to the right. I try to stay to the right of people, and usually they do the same. I don't know that it's written anywhere, it's simply the way I go. Good question, though!

I just keep walking whether I bump into them or not. And if they give me a dirty look I just smile.
