Ok, you all know me, and you know I'm atheist. The title quote was posted as a response to a question just posed by Rabble_Rouser.

I had to laugh at the answer, because I really don't believe you feel that way. But what I can't help wondering is this...

Haven't you figured it out yet that the constant preaching at us and damning us is having the exact opposite effect of what you are trying to achieve?? Do you really think you can convert us??

I have to confess - the constant attacks on atheists by fundamentalists do encourage me to want to convert to atheism out of spite.

I find at very least, I tend to side with atheists in arguments when this happens.

1) Gosh, I feel like I should be living up to all the hype. I better get started on my atheist pamphlets and that educational video series I've always wanted to make about the benefits of heathenism. Plus... we must not forget that all atheists are communists... so I better become an angry socialist right away. Yeah, gotta "preach" for "the cause".

2) Why would I do any work "for" something that doesn't exist?

3) It's true, preaching often shuts down all receptors. I lock myself off from the hostility and the undeserved self-righteousness.

Which is why I don't preach or condemn others. I KNOW that most people think and feel that Christians can come on strong, as a matter of fact some can and it only scares others away. I know I am not perfect and I WILL NOT preach to others by damning them to Hell.. I leave the judging to God. We can't convert anyone. We can only show the way, but I believe the way has to be shown in a gentle and non offensive matter.

I think we are forgetting the fact that there is a religion for people who actually worship Satan. It is called Satanism and those people are called satanists or satan-worshipers. So let's not go crazy. If you don't believe in god that doesn't automatically make you evil. It is naive and narrow-minded to think that way. I personally think that preaching may very well work on children and young people who haven't got a very strong grasp on how the world is. Grown-ups have had their belief systems tried and tested and therefore are a lot more difficult to convert.

Okay , I'll be the odd man out.
I agree with the sentiment. In fact I have said it myself many times. I think we are all leaders, all the time. The only difference is where or to what we are leading others to. If I do something good, I maybe leading someone to Christ. But if I do something bad then I may be leading them away from Christ. Why would I have any different opinion about the actions of atheists or agnostics? It would not make sense to think that only my actions and behaviors have an impact. In fact I think that would be rather arrogant. So I think it is perfectly fine to believe that you and other atheists are leading people astray. But if I am to be honest, I have to admit that my actions can do the same thing sometimes.

As a Christian I'm embarrassed by some of the "so called Christian" ans. on this site. Until we can respect other peoples beliefs we will always be at war.

There are some very intelligent and insightful Atheist here. I enjoy listening to what you have to say.
