I'm using Windows XP, I have InterVid WinDVD4 (means absolutely nothing to me), which I take still photos off of DVDs, but I cannot figure out how to copy a disk to another. My DVD/VHS player only works one or the other, not both.

Ok... Let's see... First of all, DVD's are mostly copy protected (not all of them though!).
Furthermore, I think you should know that within the US, duplication of DVDs containing copyrighted material, even for personal use is largely considered as against the law and recently there are several software manufacturers that have faced trials on that issue.
Keeping that in mind, meaning that you can only copy self-made DVD's (like for instance those with your own photos, home movies and such), here's what you have to do.
1. You need the following:
- a computer with a DVD/R+/R-/RW, that is a DVD recorder on your machine (NOT a CD recorder, that won't do neither a DVD-ROM that will only READ prerecorded DVDs).
2. Duplication software. Just Google it. You'll find several good hits. InterVideo - the company that makes WinDVD4 has some decent software for that too - DVD Copy Gold 5 and DVD Copy Platinum 5, that can be downloaded for 39,95 and 49,95 respectively.
3. Install the copying software and after that insert the DVD to copy in your DVD recorder on your computer.
4. Follow on screen instructions.
That should do it!

WinDVD will only play DVDs. You cannot copy DVD movies, they contain copyright protection that a burner is designed to recognize.

Use an .ISO program such as UltraISO. Make a DVD image of your disc, to an .iso file on your hard drive.

Open Nero, choose to "Burn From Image", and select the .iso file you've just made.

WinDVD is a player...

You need burning software to burn a DVD. You also need a DVD BURNER, not just a DVD player
