I tell my patients 0.5 oz per pound per day... more if they are exersizing intensely. The 8 glasses one-size-fits-all answer should be abandoned. Remember that caffeinated beverages don't count.

If you are trying to lose weight, I have heard that you should take your weight and drink have the number in ounces. So, for example, if you are 200 pounds, half of that is 100. You should then be drinking 100 ounces of water a day. Does that make sense?

1oz. per every 2lbs of body weight is good... ex: 120lbs would need 7 8oz cups of water per day. which works out to 3 and a half 16 oz. bottles.
