Physical education needs to be about educating kids for a lifetime of fitness and healthy eating. Too often, phys ed has been a place where fat or clumsy kids were tortured or mocked, which tends to turn them off permanently to participating in sports or other fitness activities. In some schools, "extras' like phys ed and music and art are cut back on to save money or to give more time to "core" curriculum. Unfortunately, this results in a population that is ultimately more poor educated. And fatter. I also worry about some of the kinds of people that are attracted to being physical education teachers. They seem more interested in coaching the talented kids than in helping the ones who really could use some encouragement.

No. American schools need to focus on one thing: Academics and ensuring our kids finish school. They don't need to learn non academic material/debates over evolution vs, creationism or knowing how to throw ball. Creationism needs to stay at church and the parents need to ensure that the kids get the proper diet and exercise as THEY ARE the parents. Schools have such shitty food for a reason.. It's COST EFFECTIVE. Schools should be 1 hour shorter as well with an optional sports program using the last hour for any sports, physical activities. The 1/2 hour to 45 min a day of gym class isn't going to make the American kids any thinner. It's the kids being taught about proper nutrition and the parents taking some responsibility of raising the children.

i think that american schools need to focus more than they do on all aspects of a kids edgucation and stop bumping a kid thats hard to deal with or has a hard time learning.c I think that the american school system is in schambles and needs to be recktified quickly. Physical stuff is important but again like all other aspects in school system needs to be looked at and there needs to be some incentive for the kids to want to participate. to many kids are allowed to get by with barely learning a thing and by eating and not getting the proper exercize. Also parents need to force the issue with the schools and with thir children if there is any hope of correcting this situation this country faces. we also need to teach ou kids what is a healthy lifestyle as far as food thats good for u and the right balance of exercize , sleep and food intake. As they say everything in moderation----no child left behind my ***----excuse me it true

Yes, we also need early nutrition education. Obesity is a problem. So many young kids are overweight due to physical inactivity and eating too much junk food. If we can educate the children early when their metabolism is still high, we can make a difference.

Yes. There's a lot of overweight kids and they're growing up eating too much and not being active because of TV and the Internet.

No. Being forced to run around and do push ups has nothing to do with education.

Yes, too many children are eating and not excercising. The only excercise they get is doing finger push ups on the remote.
