a friend took in a 16 yo girl, who's father kicked her out of his house. he has full custody, and she is unable to return to the mother's due to a legal restraint. my friend would like to foster this child. she is sweet and lovable and looking for stabilty, which my friend is willing to provide. her father did not even enroll her into school, and the girl wants to attend. my friend has no legal papers allowing her any rights to help this child. how would she start helping this girl?

You cant just foster a child because you want to. To become a foster parent you have to do paperwork, get educated, get a home study, etc. I could take months and months. First thing you can do is see if her father will sign over temporary custody to your friend. If that does not work I would call child protective services and turn him in for neglect and for not enrolling her in school. She may even ask her father to be emancipated. This would let her become a legal adult and start doing was is best for her.

call child protective services, they will know the law best in your state/area. you CAN get become an emergency foster home for a particular child if necessary. this process takes only a few days, and your friend should be able to take in the 16 yr old. your friend will not be able to take other children however, just the 16 yr old. regardless of what happens, have your friend visit this 16 yr old at her placement (if it comes to that) or wherever she is. this 16 yr old will need someone to be there, a mentor, as she goes through this scary process.

Get the facts first. A reputable family law attorney may assist. I'd seek a consultation first. You see, if you do not do things properly, your friend may lose custody of this teen who desperately needs your friend's help. (The system can be time consuming and complicated.) A foster agency would be able to prepare all documentation and start the necessary legalities. I'd call anonymously first to ask questions. You never know what kind of trouble or difficulties you may subject yourself to if you disclose your identity. Good luck to you and your friend.

since the girl is 16 first she have to get custody of her b/c her father can come back and take your friend to court for "kid nappin". Once she did that then she can find the best school to put the 16 yr old in and go from their.
Good luck on everthing. I hope that it all work out. I know how it feel to see someone in help and want to help them. I just got full custody for my little cousin who is 2. Everybody need someone postive in their life and I pray that your friend gets the girl
