2:62 "Those who believe (in the Qur'an), and those who follow the Jewish (scriptures), and the Christians and the Sabians,- any who believe in Allah and the Last Day, and work righteousness, shall have their reward with their Lord; on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve."

Does it make you feel very small, that you would hate a people who do not hate you, even though Jesus (pbuh) preached only love? Who is better following the example of Jesus (pbuh) - the ones who preach hatred, or the ones who preach tolerance?

See you in heaven someday, God willing!

Bryan M and Tim, the verse I quoted is from the Quran. If a person doesn't at least attempt to follow the Quran, he isn't following Islam. What you are claiming Muslims to believe is the opposite of what this verse says.

Kjelstad, you know you are citing verses out of context. Why don't you put the verses before and after those you quoted, which clearely put these in the context of battle, and BEFORE, BETWEEN, AND AFTER THOSE VERSES YOU CITED is where the command is given to not attack, and to accept peace on equitable terms, which I alluded to already. It seems you are purposefully giving distorted information for the purpose of inciting hatred. Is that acceptable according to your religion?

Esther. . . should I make conclusions about Christianity based on George Bush or Pat Robertson or Jerry Falwell? We are discussing the religion here, not the politicians who claim to be a part of it.

Most non-Muslims have not studied Islam. But then again many Muslims don’t live by the basics of Mohamed’s teachings. Here are some excerpts about Muslim basics:

http://spirituality.indiatimes.com/articleshow/995419914.cms
“Islam, The Religion Of Peace”
The model world, according to Islam, is a world of peace. Islam in itself means a religion of peace.

There are many verses in the holy Quran and hadith, which emphasise on compassion. For instance, the Prophet said: "O people, be compassionate to others so that you may be granted compassion by God."

Once a person came to the Prophet and asked him, "O Prophet, give me an advice by which I may be able to manage all the affairs of my life." The Prophet replied: "Don't be angry. Even if people provoke you, don't lose temper and forgive those who make you angry. Adopt forgiveness as your behaviour."

One of the hardest things to follow for us imperfect humans is to willingly think and act with compassion and forgiveness towards the “other”. Yet it has been taught by a number of “religions” including Islam.

But the concept appears to us as “not logical”, “impractical” or “unrealistic”. So we find excuses or make “interpretations” or pick more “logical” parts from our holy books to “justify” our actions, and forget about the basic truth.

That’s why we have Jihad and why we had “holy wars” and why we are still condemning and fighting “the others” (infidels or whatever!). That’s also why we have various fractions of Muslims or Christians or Jews or Buddhists etc., though they ALL teach the wisdom of compassion and forgiveness.

Just imagine! If all humans would willingly (not because they have been told) act out of compassion and forgiveness toward the "others" there truly would be peace on Earth! - No, I'm not perfect either!

"If any show patience and forgive, that truly would be an exercise of courageous will and resolution in the conduct of affairs." Qur'an: Sura 42:43 (Counsel)

according to a Muslim Comment this verse it was abrogated for this verse
If anyone desires a religion other than Islam (submission to Allah), never will it be accepted of him; and in the Hereafter He will be in the ranks of those who have lost (All spiritual good). 3:85

Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued. 9:29 People of the Book christian and jews? why u should fight againts us?

do you know the truth about "mohammad" (phuey) and the "Quran" (phuey) Mohammad preached that it was okay to have 4 wives, but he could have 12, his youngest "wife" was an 11 year old girl. He tried to brainwash people into thinking he was the only prophet and there were none and will be none before or after him. Lets see, oh yea, he dressed as a woman in the evenings so that he would not be captured, Jesus Died, and came back to life, Mo died and rotted away, who sounds like a profit? the quran also states that it is ok to kill "Infidels", which is anyone who is not muslim, and that it is ok to lightly beat your wife so that she will behave and submit to her husband. The Quran is full of lies, hatred and blasphemy, Mo was a fraud

in your additional details you say they are claiming the opposite of that verse. Well here are some more opposites:

3:85 "Whoso seeketh as religion other than the Surrender (to Allah) it will not be accepted from him, and he will be a loser in the Hereafter."

4:91 "Take them and kill them wherever ye find them. Against such We have given you clear warrant."

4:101 "The disbelievers are an open enemy to you."

You know there are many more.

It's amazing how people would answer without reading the whole question, or without really understanding what it says...

For those who think that Muslims hate all other religions, and for those who think that Muslims think everybody else is an infidel, COULD YOU PLEASE READ THE VERSE AGAIN??!

Yes, this is what the holy book tells us about other people, and this is how we're instructed to treat them. We are NOT to think they're infidels, and we are NOT to hate them. We treat everybody with respect and understanding, and leave jugdement of their beliefs, and ours, to the almighty God.

Thank you!

As a Christian, I don't hate Muslims. I don't hate the person. I just seriously disagree with their beliefs.

Also for Islam being a religion of peace, why is it that someone like myself (A Christian) who does not believe the muslim belief and refuse to convert, I am considered an infidel, and deserve to die. That don't sound like a peaceful religion to me.

As for the people who are muslims, it's my prayer that they will learn the truth.

Wait a minute, hold the phone. You've got things a little back to front. Didn't I just see a video threatening all America to convert to Islam or die? Yes I think I did.

'nuff said.

Probably you are trying to say that quran doesn't go against Christians. Yeah, you might be right, probably its the Muslims who are so involved in their religion that makes them feel superior still oppressed, apart and others khafir (non-believers).

The question is not why do Christians hate Muslims it is why do Muslims hate everyone who is not Muslim. I have never heard of a Methodist skiyjacker, have you? How about a Presbyterian suicide bomber? Hate is not a quality of the Christian faith and those that do hate are a source of shame to God and do violence to Christ. However, the Muslim is praised for killing and idolized for murder. I think you should chastize those in the Islamic community that perpetuate hate and justify murder.
