Fort Wayne, Indiana...it has a population of around 250,000 (within the city limits), but has small town, friendly culture and values, and the cost of living and crime rate is lower than cities of comparable size and has lots of schools so would be easier to find a job than in smaller cities.
According to the website indicated below:
"Overall Ranking for the Fort Wayne Metropolitan Area was 122 out of the 150 largest metro areas in the index utilized by Forbes in year 2004 Best Places for Business report. The index weighs expenses related to labor, energy, taxes and office space. Job and income growth, migration patterns and crime rates are also factored in."
"Four public school districts encompass the City of Fort Wayne and the Allen County area. These districts 94 public schools and 74 non-public schools."
"Located in the northeast section of Indiana, Fort Wayne covers 77.6 square miles and has an elevation of 790 feet above sea level. Fort Wayne is within a 250 mile radius of 17% of the total U.S population, and within a day's drive of half the nation's population."

Well, I live in a small town (about 10,000 people) and it is very affordable. The houses here are in the 60,000 dollar range, and we have tons of schools, parks and recreation stuff for kids and adults. We are only about 20 minutes away from a bigger city with a mall, and lots of stores and resturants. I was raised here and I am raising my 3 sons here also. The name of the town is Merrill WI. I dont think anyone could offer me enough to leave here. So, check it out, look it up and good luck.

Well i live in oklahoma and the cost of living is very reasonable. They have good schools in the moore and edmond school systems and very nice houses too. These town are just a few miles from Oklahoma City. If these towns sound too small, I know that Tulsa has very good scholl systems too. If you have not ever been to Oklahoma, I will just let you know that it is not all just a flat land of grass. It has a lot of city life too.

dahlonega georgia. it is a little gold town that still mines gold. it is nestled in the foothills of the appalachian mountains. it is about seventy miles north of atlanta. i think the pay scale is above average. the cost of living may be a little higher than average, but the town is well worth it
