Because they use it as a control mechanism. Once they have everyone brain washed to believe like they do, they can pretty much get away with anything because they can spin it to be the "work of God" or with in their power as "the messenger of God" and so on and so forth.

Not ALl that preach religion are as self destructive as you think,there is a society that abstains from any participation in politics and wars and genocide, it may be the hardest to accept but they speak the truth and it is not watered down so you have to have a well lubricated pallet,they do not accept collection and all funds are donations only from what you can give,what you have to give is what you want to keep the most your time,to spread the word .false religion is rampant and is there to confuse the masses but those that are earnest in knowing the truth will realize sooner or later.one more thing ,the pastor does not have a designated parking spot only handicaps,they are known as the JW.

I think the atheist Khmer Rouge under Pol Pot, the atheist ChiComs under Mao and the Gang of Four, the atheist Soviets under Stalin, and the not really Christian Nazis under Hitler give the worst deeds of religion a run for their money, don't you? And I point that out as an atheist. People blindly following any cause or leader, religious, political, national or ethnic, will act like barbarians. The point is always maintain your allegiance to your humanity and never yield it to anyone.

And I would note the poster below forgets regimes of the twentieth century were the first with the opportunity to kill in mass the largest populations in earth's history. This doesn't make the atheist regimes more murderous, simply better equpped with more population to attack, all factors overlooked when this issue is brought up for anti-atheist polemic instead of historic discussion.

I strongly disagree. Most religious preachers are good, compassionate and sincere - that applies to Muslims, Christians, and so on.

However I do believe that people have wrongly used religion as a means of getting support and recruiting people in military/terrorist organizations. Religion is something people are passionate about, so it would be easy to manipulate people by using religion.

In history, battles would not have taken place if there were no oppressors or if injustice was not done and people don't start wars because of religion, they do it because of politics. No religion actually encourages people to fight. Why would God want his most beloved creations to kill one another for no good or valid reason? In Islam we are to defend ourselves against oppressors and injustice, and I strongly believe that is the only reason anyone should go to war or start fighting. Otherwise, we should live in peace, respect and harmony as God told us to do.

Telling and preaching about God is too powerful of a message for most people, and only those that are truly called to do so are able to handle this.A salesman knows all about the product he is selling, but few preachers know about God, only the ones that are blessed to receive the word directly, and are directed to gently but firmly to impart the things pertaining to God's will.

Because there is only one true religion. Many claim to be Christians but not all are True Christians. There is a big difference. Matthew 24:4,5 foretold the time that we are living in, which the Bible calls "the last days" and it said that:
"....Look out that nobody misleads you, for many will come on the basis of my name, saying, "I am the Christ" and will mislead many."

So yes, many claim to be Christians, but they are not. Most religions are involved in wars. True Christians stay politically neutral and do not fight in wars, nor participate, nor support them in any way. Those religions who allow or promote, or approve of fighting in,or supporting wars are not made up of True Christians. God's true servants learn peace not war. (Isaiah 2:4)

First of all, they would be "nominal" religious preachers of religion. Most religions, if poeple actually followed the tenants of the faith, are peaceful in nature.

Secondly, I would contend that those who are athiest are the most murderous. Communism, which is atheistic at its core, has killed over 100 million people during the 20th and 21st centuries.

Well, modern Christians do not commit murder too much these days because they relize that Christ came to teach love for our fellow man, but the Crusades were pretty bloody. Thos who do kill in the name of God are convinced they are doing God's will.

A study of the old testement will reveal that God commanded the Hebrews to kill people. Saul lost his kingship because God commanded him to kill the women, children and livestock, but he decided the women, children and livestock could be good to save from death and God was so upset with him that he took the kingship away from saul and gave it to David. Some Christians will go as far to blame our problems in the Middle East to Sauls breaking God's command.
