It is in the intersection of Broadway Seventh Avenue, from 42nd to 47th Streets of Manhattan.

Like Red Square in Moscow, Trafalgar Square in London, or Tiananmen Square in Beijing, Times Square is an open space where pedestrians can congregate. It was named after the one-time headquarters of The New York Times.

Beyond the square itself, the Times Square neighborhood consists of the blocks between Seventh and Ninth Avenues from east to west, and 39th and 52nd Streets from south to north (40.75659° N 73.98626° W), making up the western part of the commercial area of Midtown Manhattan.

Times Square is between 7th Avenue and Broadway and between 42nd and 43rd Streets, but the term sometimes also refers to the blocks immediately around there.

It is a great place to avoid with way too many "circus people" and tourists.
