I knew a dog called Auto or Otto once (we never found out how it was spelt). He was a horrible liver coloured French hunting dog who spent his time humping everything, so I have a natural dislike for any dog by that name.
Just a thought ... if it was a guide dog, would it be an Autopilot?

I do like these names (both of them) they are really cool sounding, however, they do say that a lot of animals do better with names ending in y. They respond and learn better with those types of names for some reason. I don't know why (maybe that's why any cat will come when a person says "Here kitty kitty.". I have had really good luck with naming my dogs like that.
My dogs names: Sassy, Sparky, Daisy.
Although, I do have a dog I rescued named 'River Dog', and she responds to that just as well, and my boyfriend has a cat named Oreo, and he responds just as well to that!
I would have to say that with enough repetition the animal can learn any name, and respond to it as well as a name ending with y. (as in the eee sound.)
Between Otto and Auto, it's up to you, they both sound the same and the animal doesn't know how it's spelled so I guess it's whatever you like the most!

I like Auto. I have had dogs by the name of Chassie, Lexus, Axle, and Bearing. I think car names rock.

does it really matter? the only time people would see which you chose, is when you write it. so for that I'd say Auto. cause its different. but either way...its pronounced the same
