very little chances of either, they will make a very small opening, the only tools that go inside are the ones with long arms used to pull the appendix out, very little potential of risk in this surgery, good luck

Chances of dying from a routine appendectomy are small although if the appendix ruptures before surgery there is a significant risk of peritonitis which can be fatal if not treated quickly and appropriately. There are many safeguards in place designed to prevent leaving an instrument inside a patient and while it can and has happened the actual instances are pretty rare. I'd say you were more likely to get struck by lightning than to die by either one of these things

There are so many things that is a possiblity with an appendectomy.
If your appendix ruptures, it raises the risk of mortality.
If you run around with a ruptured appendix for a while and develop peritonitis, it raises the risk of mortality.
The chance of surgical tools being left in you are fairly low since in surgery they do a count and make sure everything is accounted for.

One is not expected to die from a appendectomy for a very simple type of surgery(very high mortality rate) but if the appendix is infected and not removed in a timely manner and bursts then it becomes serious for the infection gets into the system. There is always pre-op done before surgery-blood is taken to make sure levels of nutrients, enzymes all up to par and the blood is tested to see how fast it clots,it is also testd for anything out of the ordinary. Anesthesia will also be explained to you. Everything that can be tested is to make sure that you are in good shape and able to have surgery so Just RELAX. One hardly ever hears of instruments and so on being left inside for now there are so many safaeguards in place compared to years ago when one would hear of it(but still rare).Mention it to the Doctor,to the Nurses, to any medical person you come in contact with for it brings it to their attention and discussing it with them esp the doctor who will do the surgery will also help calm you. I was scared when I had my first surgery that I'dook as if I was out but wasn't-nothing bad happened to me ,in fact the whole time thought I was in a meadow picking flowers with my (deceased)Mother. If you are really paranoid ask the doctor for a mild sedative the night before you go to the hospital to make sure you relax and sleep. Before they take you into surgery -you'll be taken where they get you ready, put in the IV and so forth then while still there they will give you a relaxing medicine(through the IV) will relax and make you feel very pleasant_you'll have no worries. Anyway relax and ask God to keep you safe.

This day and age anything is possible, but the chances are extremely low. The fact that it has happened and that there is a chance is a very scary and the most frightening thing about it. The chances are slim to none, but it's scary crap.

Your chances of getting in a car accident on the way to surgery are probably much greater.

OMFG... YOU'RE GONNA DIE!!!

Um...Or not. The procedure is really fast and simple now. You'll be in and out within a day or so... And if one of them leaves a tool in ya, you can sue the hell out of them, so it's all good...

I don't think it is likely - but you could always write on yourself with a sharpie: "Are you sure you remembered everything?"
