This little guy is just adorable. He's very quiet and was skittish at first but very friendly with me. We can't have inside dogs due to allergies. Can we keep him outside or do we need to find a good home for him? I've already become very fond of him. I named him Chimichanga & call him Chimi for short *lol*

Reading your advice has made me quite sad. I just hate having to give him away because I've already become attached to him. He doesn't bark & he's so loving. But I want to do what is right for him.

Most tiny breeds don't do well out side. Not only do they get cold, but if they are thin haired they sunburn, and they get very lonley for human company.
A few phone calls to vets will get you the phone number of chihuahua rescue in your area.
Also, ask your vet about reducing the allergens- some people with very short haired dogs are able to kjeep their allergies under control by wiping their dogs down with several OTC products- I think one is (of all things) avon skin so soft- diluted.
Your allergy doc may also know of ways to reduce the allergy load from the dogif you decide you want to try to keep him (indoors)

Chihuahua's really need to be kept indoors, as they don't do well in extreme weather. Especially cold weather. If it gets below 80 degrees in my house my chihuahua gets under a blanket.
Also, Chihuahua's are extremely social dogs. They are not a breed that can be left alone for long periods of time. They want to be with their humans at all times and are very prone to separation anxiety. Plus they are not able to protect themselves from any other animal, be it another dog, cat, or bird.
I know it may be hard, but I honestly believe the best thing to do for him is to find him a new home. One where you know that he will be kept inside and given lots of love. Also, when finding him a home do not place an ad to give him away for free. These dogs are often used to train fighting dogs, or sold to laboratories. Please read, http://www.petrescue.com/library/free-pet.htm

you can not keep chihuahuas outside first of all they will die when it gets cold, they also cant take very hot weather. They also cant defend themselves any bigger dog or even some cats will kill a dog this small. Also I'm sure this dog belongs to somebody who desperately misses him so put up some flyers or something if no one shows up to get him you will need to find him a home since you cant keep him in your house. Now chihuahuas dont really like kids so give him to someone with no kids, and they tend to get along really well with elderly people. Best of luck to you!!!

Chihuahuas should always be an inside dog. Please find a friend or relative or someone who will give it a good home or call your local Chihuahua rescue group. We lost our chi Diego almost a year ago. He was a tiny light fawn Chihuahua.
It is easy to get attached to these little guys. They are my life, but a Chihuahua should always be an inside dog. They are born to be a lap dog, to sit by your side, sleep in your bed, follow you wherever you go. It would be so unhappy outside. Plus there are too many things that can happen to a little chi. They can be killed by bigger dogs, coyotes, buzzards, hawks, bobcats. Maybe you can give it to a neighbor or good friend and you can visit him often.

hey i would totally take him. its not in chimis best interest to be outside if it gets cold during the winter months. if you do decide to keep him, be sure to get him a little sweater so he doesnt get sick from exposure. good luck and if you need a home for him, let me know, i live in north carolina at the beach so it doesnt get too too cold here. i would be willing to take a road trip. lol.

You wont want to leave him outside all the time he will get lonely all by himself you might want to have him in the house in a kennel or in a room of his own. If you cant stand leaving him inside or outside then find a new home for him.

Oh you need to find the poor little thing a home if you can't keep him! I would not leave him outside, those dogs are so tiny -- he'll be scared.

how bad are your allergies? my sister has moderate allergies to dogs but her son wanted one so badly she went to the doctor and was able to take a prescription allergy medication and she is not bothered by the dogs very much at all. i know it's kind of a pain to take medication, but it might be worth it, you seem so attached and really disappointed to have to get rid of him. good luck.

If you have a back porch where you can provide shelter in the cold or extreme heat, yes. If you have to leave him out in the cold without shelter, do him a big favor and find him an inside home. He may not be able to thank you, but God will.
