I have a very distressing fear of surgery,mainly appendectomy,every time I get a slight stomach ache i get very scared that its appendecitis i start freaking out and make myself sick with worry,I hate this and was wondering if there is a cure for fear of surgery,i mean a cure for the fear of being cut open,an IV in my arm and docters leaving tools inside me. PLEASE HELP

The truth is, no one likes it. Sometimes you just need it. I was terrified when I found out I had to get my gallbladder removed, I was more scared of the anesthesia than the actual surgery though. -shrug- Do you actually have a health problem? Appendicitis? If not, then I wouldn't worry with it, that just causes unnecessary stress.

I'd be afraid of the anesthesia wearing off too early and waking up in the middle of the surgery. Or having too much anesthesia and not waking up at all.

Your doctor will give you something to relax you and it will all be ok. I am 30 years old and have had 8 or 9 operations. Its really not that big of a deal

I almost left a joke then I saw others did. We all have our point of fear. You identified yours. You understand where it is irrational. You are on your way to understanding and getting an upper hand on it. Now what about me living in NYC worrying about rattlesnakes?

Let the Dr know about your fear of surgery.
If and when you actually have surgery you won't be awake for it. You will fall asleep then it will be over.

You need to see a therapist, if you can't afford one go to County Mental Health like I did
