Hes got an appointment thursday, but am too curious to wait. On the bends of his ankles and the back of his knee, theres a very red dry area, along the bend. I know its not his clothes or the detergent, no time to explain why here. They seem to itch because he rubs them against the chair or on the carpet when hes playing. They have a "chapped" look to them like dry, red, cracked skin. Two weeks of lotion have done nothing. Has anyone ever experienced this? What is it and what will I need to do?

It could be an allergy to something in the environment, excema, or even a yeast infection if these fold are deep. It could even be psoriasis. Anything from this much information is just guess work, so the doctor really need to see this. It could be just dry skin, for that matter.

Since you know it's itching, try using an over the counter treatment like 1% or 1/2% hydrocortisone cream or Benadryl cream or even a combination.

He may be making them worse rubbing them because they itch, so you might consider applying a nonstickl dressing like Telfa pads over the creams to protect the areas. Keep a close watch for signs of infection which could result from scratching as well.

About lotions: they really don't add moisture to the skin but in most cases just help keep it in. For best reaults, apply moisturizing products just after bathing.

Sounds like he has eczema. It's hereditary. My son has it. Believe me when I tell this you, the best thing I found that works on my son is Balmex. Rub on spots once in the morning and once after bathtime.
I have taken him to two top Dermatologists in my area and have spent hundreds of dollars for prescription creams and they didn't work. Balmex really works and is so much cheaper. Good luck!

sounds like eczema, otc steroids could help but a doctor should look at them first to confirm diagnosis and prescribe approriately, at home we have had good luck with vaseline, to keep it in place you can apply a gauze with tape when he goes to bed and this way he will get maximum moisturising effect through the night, good luck

Possibly eczema, psoriasis, or some sort of rash. Any of those can be cleared up with medications/medicated creams.
