Kittens who have a high temperature generally have a hard time regulating their body temperature. If you use something cold on them, I would not keep it on them longer than a minute or it will make the kitty worse. The problem isn't the temperature, but what is causing the temperature. The best thing is to make sure they are staying hydrated. Something I find helps perk up sick kittens is to take a syringe and some corn syrup diluted with a little water and squirt it into their mouth (do not squirt plain water or it might get into their lungs, the corn syrup is thicker.) I'm surprised the vet didn't do more for the kitty, but I guess if they don't know what it is they can't help with it. What kind of tests did they do on your kitty? I know our vet checks EVERYTHING possible that would cause those symptoms before they send us home. Did the vet check for dehydration? Pinch the back of your kitties neck and if it doesn't return back to normal, then it is dehydrated. Give the kitty lots of moist food and try to get it to drink water. If needed give her/him tuna water to help get them to drink. Tuna is bad for kitties only because of the high fat content, and for a sick kitty it is ok and perfectly fine to give it to them now. It's just not good to have it as their main source of food. Whatever you do, don't give them milk. Milk can cause severe diarrhea and vomitting which can cause your kitty to become dehydrated. You can give them pumpkin (like the stuff you buy in a can) or plain yogurt if they have diarrhea, but I wouldn't give them this unless you are seeing signs of diarrhea.
By chance did you kitty just get shots? We have a kitty who reacted really badly every time we gave him shots, he slept a lot and had a high temperature.
I hope your kitty's temperature goes down soon. You kitty may have just picked up a bug and needs to get over it. If you see him/her acting lethargic or unresponsive, bring her to an emergency vet and whatever you do, make sure they stay hydrated or they could go so fast on you. Good luck

I'm sorry your kitty is sick - I know how difficult it is.
Hydrate the baby, for sure. I can't tell you why kitty is doing this, but IME, fevers occur for a reason - and having a fever for more than a couple of days, combined with lethargy, would worry me too. I would absolutely seek a second opinion.
I'm saying that assuming that your vet didn't do any blood or urine workups.
Ask around and find out who some of your friends use, and who they warn against. That's your best bet.
I wish you the best.

Not one person mentioned what my vet just told me: take cotton balls, douse them with alcohol and then rub the PADS of your cat's feet. The ears, head and belly are external to the source of the fever, and since cats don't run fevers like humans, cooling the head will not help. They take in heat and cool through their feet.
And I'd change vets. Allowing the cat to run a fever for longer than two days is dangerous and irresponsible.

It depends on how high your fever is. I would contact the professor and see if I could reschedule. If I couldn't reach him or her, I would drag myself in there, take the exam, and head straight back to bed. Right now I would ask a friend to bring me Tylenol, 7-up, saltines, and orange juice so that you might feel better by tomorrow.

Take a bag of frozen vegetables and lay it underneath the cat. It will slowly cool the cat without causing it to shiver. Drinking fluids will also reduce the fever.
You can moisten your fingers with cool water and massage their outer ears, and neck but don't soak their fur, just enough to cool the hot areas a little.
(lucky cat you care so much, kudos to you)

I have never had it happen to my cat but try giving it some milk or water and keeping it well hydrated. If that don't help i don't know i would see your vet again.

check hims over for any bites or swollen places...he could have gotten bitten by something....or he might have ate soemthing that poisoned him.Your cat's internal temperature should be between 100.5° and 101.5° F....I don't know if it'll work on cats...but it works on humans...submerse in cool water...or have a small wash cloth with cool water and wrap it on him...you should make sure he drinks his water...the fever might dehydrate him
