ever since like 3rd grade, i've had this urge to bite small peices of skin inside my mouth and eat it. i used to do it so much to the point that i would bleed a lot. but i dont do it that badly anymore, but i still do it. i wish i could stop, and i've tried to, but it's almost like an addiction, you know? i have to chew gum a lot just to stop my self from eating up the inside of my mouth.
what's wrong with me? how can i stop???

I do that too! When I saw your question it freaked my out because I've never heard anyone else ever admit to doing that. It's right below and to the right of my bottom lip that I chew. I know what you mean about trying to stop, but I'm 45 and still doing it. I think it's probably some kind of nervous habit. Sorry, I'm not being helpful, but at least you know someone else has the same crazy habit.
Oh, and I agree with blah...If I chew gum I don't do it at all.

Are you doing it in the inside of your mouth on the cheeks? Yeah, I used to do that as a child growing up and it was really hard to get out of the habit. I stopped it when I turned around 14 and thank god. I used to do it everyday as a child and my cheeks would bleed everyday and it was nasty because I would swallow my own blood and loved it. At age 11 I got very sick and they did a bunch of tests at the hospital and they found out that I have Crohn's Disease and I believe this habit chewing the inside of my mouth inside my cheeks and swallowing all the blood for years made me get the Crohn's Disease. So please talk to your parents about this and let your doctor know. I don't want you to get sick from doing this. Now I am 18 and I don't have this habit anymore but the Crohn's Disease will never go away. I am too embarrassed to let my parents, doctor, or anyone else know that I used to chew the inside of my mouth. So I know how hard it can be.

Wow, I thought I was the only one who chewed off little pieces of the inside of my mouth. I feel much better about myself. I've never done it to the point where it was painful and I bled, though.

It might be a nervous habit, maybe you should tell your doctor or somebody, I sometimes bite the inside of my mouth to stop me from laughing at an inappropriate time.

No its not normal and it can lead to skin cancer in the mouth. Consult a doctor and see if there is anything he can do for you. If not it will take alot of willpower to stop this habit.

i used to bite inside my mouth too. i usually get a kanker sore afterwards. you got to distract yourself from doing it. try occupying yourself by doing a hobby or play sports. if you are in a situation that makes you want to do it, i cant think of anything else better than chewing gum.

i believe theres nothing wrong with you aside from having a habit. i sometimes do this too and my grlfriend said she does also ive noticed my daughter doin it too. i think its just like any other habit and that all ya gotta do is try to stop yourself when you get the urge.

I've done it for 20 years......I can't stop. I think it's a better habit then bitting your nails.
