My dentist said that sleeping with my mouth open is bad for my gums? What can I do about this? Is there some kind of protection I should where in my mouth?

It is, drys them terribly, tape your mouth shut at night, no kidding

Tape your mouth shut at night using the clear adhesive tape found in the bandage section of the store. Desk tape won't work too well.

I have this problem. I have sinus problems and sleep apnea. I was evaluated and the C-Pap won't work for me so I am seeing a facial surgeon who may operate on my nose to help my breathing.

Try to tuck a pillow under your chin when you sleep to keep your mouth closed. You could try wearing the headgear used by wrestlers, the one with chin straps.

you can see an ENT surgeon for evaluation if your nasal airway collapses while sleep, this would make you a mouth breather, good luck
