Meaning- did you ever settle for something less than what you wanted for your wedding- like did you go to the JP instead of a church wedding because your hubby doesnt want a church wedding, or settled for a color or theme you didnt like for inlaws?

FYI- this is just a general question- all those "its your day, do what you want" answers are not what i am looking for- i am looking for sacrifices to make the wedding something that you AND your partner want.

My husband would only marry if there was no real wedding and he could wear blue jeans. 1975, went to the courthouse, I made my own dress and we bought a car instead of a ring. Frankly at the time, I accepted it and settled but when I left him years later, it still bothered me.
My advice, don't settle ever.

Ok I will offer a male perspective here. Do you Love Him? Does he Love You? If the answer to both of these is yes then it does not matter if you go to a JP or a Church and everyone wears black. Spend ten bucks or a hundred thousand the outcome will be the same, two people to love each other will have completed the social function of marriage.
If the answer to either of the two questions is No, then it does not matter because it will only end in divorce!
So sacrifice, wheel and deal, it really doesn't matter if your in love, and if your not then its all a waste anyway!

Had a "fancier" wedding than I probably would have liked because of my mom - but in a positive way. My dad had died a year and a half before, and she was just coming out of her shell. I was the last daughter to get married out of four, so she wanted the full, traditional wedding. It actually was wonderful, so no harm, no foul.

Absolutely! There's no better time to realize that marriage is about compromise and sacrifice! :) We had a backyard, barefoot wedding with Christmas lights in the trees. We improvised, we skimped. Was it the Ritz? - NO. Did I get the man of my dreams? - OH YEAH. Beautiful night and I didn't miss a thing.

Too many people go crazy over the wedding these days and use the excuse "It's my day." Compromises on the wedding and setting limits on expenses will help get your marriage started on the right foot.

No, we settled for nothing. It's your wedding. The bride is the star of the show.
