To all the teenagers posting that they are 17 and still TorT, when older kids show up on my doorstep I think it is REALLY Pathetic. Go get a job and buy your own candy. TorT is for kids.
To the poster, 13 is at the threshold. Do you not want to go because you feel embarassed or some other reason? If you are going with younger siblings, the people giving out candy will think it is great you are looking out for the little ones. If you don't want to get really dressed up and get candy yourself, you could just walk around with your mom & siblings and help out with them, carrying bags between houses and keeping track of everyone. If you just really don't want to do any of these things, explain to your mom you feel you are getting too old to TorT...and Explain, not get upset and argue, the best way to get her to listen is to sit her down and calmly discuss how you feel and have the reasons ready because she will ask Why. If you are responsible, she may let you stay home alone.
I would suggest a trade-off to help Mom ease into your growing up. Offer to go and help out with the little ones and in exchange you get to have a few friends over after for a small party. This should lay the groundwork for next year when you will be old enough to go to a halloween party.

Go trick or treating but tell you mom this is the last year you will go. This way she has a year to prepare herself. It's hard for moms to let their children grow up. A wise child knows this and finds a way to ease Mom into it.
Have fun. Make this a good one if it will be your last one.

Be honest with your mom , tell her how you feel. She'll understand--- most people out grow the need to dress up and go trick or treating around your age. Maybe you can offer to stay home and hand out candy to the trick or treaters...if you aren't home alone that is! Whatever you do have fun...Halloween is my birthday and I love to see everyone dressed in costume and eating candy without feeling guilty.....

Your mom sees you are growing up and misses the fun she had with you as a child. Go trick or treating with her and make her day. Have fun!!
