Not directly. It is the stress that can bring these things out. Fear doesn't cause bipolar or schizophrenia. Just like social anxiety doesn't necessarily make you turn into an alcoholic. But it can bring these things out if you were already prone to them. Good luck. God be with you.

They have nothing to do with one another. Especially if there's no history of bipolar or schizophrenia in your family. Although like the guy a few back said, social anxiety can be a symptom of schizophrenia. If you had schizophrenia, you'd be experiencing much more severe symptoms than that. Also schizophrenia doesn't typically show up until the person's 20s or 30s. I don't know how old you are.
I'm not sure what is up with this guy up above me, but he doesn't know what he is talking about. (the guy on behavioral medications)

This is one of those Questions where one tries to to figure out which is Bad & which is Worse... And based on what I've read & observed- it's probably pretty close to being a toss-up. Inititially- I would've suggested that Schizophrenia was the more dibilitating of the two maladies- if only because there was so much more Negative information about it. But as Bi-Polar Disorder has become better understood, the line of "Seriousness" between the two mental illnesses- has become increasingly "blurred..." The Reality IS, they're BOTH very complicated & serious mental illnesses- to the extent that NOBODY should want to be afflicted by Either!

Social anxiety will not grow into bipolar disorder or schizophrenia. However, if you have either bipolar disorder or schizophrenia, anxiety in social situations may accompany the other symptoms of the disorder. A competent mental health professional can provide you with a diagnosis and screen you for any significant problems.

No.
Social anxiety can be a symptom related to bipolar disorder, meaning that diagnoses sometimes overlap. A lot of people have multiple dx's. Schizophrenia is not necessarily related closely to social phobia.
Social anxiety is a common problem, and does not mean you will have more problems than just that one.

I could see a mild schizophrenia developing but not bipolar. Don't know if there's any scientific proof just seems logical to be able to develope schizophrenia for some social anxiety disoders have been associated with "schiznoid".

uhh, I disagree. I don't know the exact definition of bi-polar, but if you are truly experiencing severe social anxiety, then you are already taking steps toward pschyzophrenia(sp?) If you experience social anxiety, then you are afraid to be in a public setting. What is the agent causing this fear? Other people. What are they thinking about me, what are they saying about me. That kind of paranoia only builds on itself.
(disagree with me if you want people, but before you do, how many behavioral prescriptions are you currently taking?)
