"A local group fighting for immigrant rights is calling for a boycott of two nationally known companies. Dunkin Donuts and Applebee's are accused of discriminating against immigrant workers whose names don't match their social security numbers.
On the 10th anniversary of what immigration reform advocates call stringent changes to immigration laws, supports of the legalization of the undocumented are once again speaking out -- only this time, they are hoping not only to mobilize their vote, but also use their buying power to force the kind of change they want.
"The social security administration says it plans to send out 8 million no match letters," said Martino Unzuerta, Chicago Workers Collaborative.
Groups accuse several companies of the practice using 'no match' letters to immigrant workers who don't have valid social security numbers. They want the public to boycott businesses, including Applebee's and Dunkin Donuts. Neither company could be reached for comment. "

Some immigration rights groups at Federal Plaza say it is no mistake there has been an increase in effort to curtail immigration reform. They have planned a day of fasting in protest of the 'no match' letters, raids, and deportations.
"It looks to me like its racism," said Emma Lozano, Pueblo Sin Fronteras.
The National Alliance for Immigration Rights wants an immediate moratorium on all workplace raids and deportations. As does Elvira Arellano -- who still seeks refuge at a West Side church after being slated for deportation because she's undocumented. Her seven-year-old son, a U.S. citizen, will go to the nation's capital to try to save his mother.
"I want President Bush to stop the raid and the deportation of my mom so she can stay with me," said Saul Arellano, Elvira's son.

Those for strict control over America's borders say there has been some progress in their fight, but more must be done.
"We are gaining ground and that Americans are waking up to the problems that illegal immigration causes in our country," said Robert Klein Engler, Illinois Minuteman Project.
Saul will be accompanied by several immigration activists as well as by Congressman Luis Guitterez to Washington DC. The group plans to address the president on Tuesday. "

OK, when I started reading this, I thought it was funny. But dragging that poor kid to the President is NOT funny. And if the President pardons her, it will cause a HUGE backlash and will NOT help the illegal immigrant cause.
What nonsense is this?

A seven year old child who is being as badly used as the child stars of early movies....totally manipulated by his mother (a pathetic excuse for one, it seems)
Used by the church...to increase numbers and contributions
By the liberals....who generally poo poo such emotion. They do better as abortionist or assisted suicide proponents....they have no tears for the unborn or the elderly...but THIS....tears galore!
By illegals...who are using any excuse to stay here and continue sucking our resources dry because "they deserve it and the white, lazy gringo is too selfish to share what he earns..Americans don't deserve anything anyway since they are the invaders...
We need to continue to keep Congress moving in the right direction. We need to flood our leaders demanding that illegals "match up" or "leave".
We will send Dunkin Donuts and Applebees our congratulations and our intent to use their services....
AND thank you for the information....
PS
Dar...just e-mailed Dunkin Donuts and Applebees...we will patronize companies who hire legal residents and will boycott those who hire illegals.

Immigrant fraud is intolerable. Corporations can receive huge fines now. If there is any question as to the legality of a worker I would vote to dismiss them. We can't afford to take chances anymore. The illegals need to go and come back the right way like my grandparents did. It's ridiculous that Mexico doesn't create jobs for these people. What goes on down there??? Is the Mexican Government that corrupt?

That's unfair. When we take action against illegals of course were the ones that are wrong for doing the right thing. They were doing their jobs. I believe applebees and dunkin dounts were the good ones. That's illegal to steal social security numbers.

How can Dunkin Donuts and Applebees be violating the law for firing those people whose social security numbers don't match. If they kept these people on, then they would be in trouble with the law.

I would expect to be discharged from my job if my SSN was not mine. It is for Federal records. The immigrant workers should have a resident alien card and a work card/visa.
In Europe you can forget working unless you have a work visa in your passport. For a passport you need an SSN, at least here in the US.

If they're legal we have no problem with them being here.
Illegal immigrants do not belong here and should be convicted of identity theft and be deported.
They knew what they were doing when they were stealing SS numbers. They should be punished and sent out. Period. It doesn't matter if they have a kid here.

What part of ILLEGAL doesn't anyone understand? If the SS # doesn't match, the business owners shouldn't continue to employ someone who isn't telling the truth.

I say that if there's ANY room for doubt, they should fire EVERYBODY(most of those places are at-will and hourly, they don't have to give grounds for letting people go), and re-hire only after a careful screening and making sure that social security numbers are right etc. Only stands to reason...they're not going to go out of business because of it, it just needs to happen...
