We (husband, me, and 2 kids) are going to Maui in 3 days (staying @ the Westin). None of us have ever been to Maui. My 10-yr-old was in Oahu when he was 3 mos old so I don't think he remembers much. Besides snorkeling being the obvious, what else can I do with my older son, considering one of us is probably tied up to the clueless baby? Also, do you think it's worthwhile to try to make it to the Big Island to see the volcano from an educational point of view? I am panicking a little about surviving the trip. Oh, we'll be there for 5 days.

I think the snorkeling thing is a good idea here on maui. The Molokini tour is a good one, you could swim with honu (sea turtle), see a lot of tropical fish, and if it's whale season, you'll probably see it on your way to molokini island. Also, a big thing here is surf lessons. Your 10 yr. old boy would love that! He could take pix to show his friends riding the 3 ft. waves. I had a lot of fun on the submarine tour because you could take pix of tiger sharks, manta rays, and dolphins. Also, don't forget to take him to a luau. The best luau is old lahaina luau. Sunset dinner would be mama's fish house. $$$ Very expensive, but one of the local favorites here. If he knows how to ride a bike then the bike tour going down Haleakala mountain would be awesome. Make sure to bring jackets! Take him to go eat some california rolls at Isana in Kihei too! That's where all the locals go to eat sushi from all over the island. Not sure if you'll be able to find this, but there's a go cart race park in Kahului by Kahului Shopping Ctr. He'll really love that and it's cheap too! For breakfast, try Tasty Crust in Wailuku, they're famous, cheap and very filling. The Maui Ocean Ctr. isn't that big of a deal, but at least it'll be a guarantee he'll see some whales or turtles and dolphins. That's at Ma'alaea harbour and they also have the mini golf and rock climbing there. $$ kind of expensive, but it's an experience. Hope this info calms you down a little:) I live here in Maui.

Give the baby to a nanny, give the oldest to a surfing instructor and go and explore the island in an open jeep.
