you don't bear the guilt. It is the other person who should not put you in that position. Is it ok if they hold this over your head? Hell no it isn't ok. It a way of manipulating other people and thats all it is. If they actually do it, too bad, it was their time to go and God chose for them to do it by their own hand.

If you know for a fact that someone is suicidal and if they have threatened to commit suicide for ANY reason you call 911.

They will be placed under observation for 48 hours to determine if they are a threat to themselves or others.

If they are, they will get the help they need and you will be able to rest knowing that you have helped prevent any violent acts they may have committed.

If they are not, they will be released and even if they are mad at you, you will know that you did the right thing and what they went through was their own fault for making statements that were untrue in order to manipulate you.

NEVER take a chance when lives are at stake.

Yes, I've been through that, and it isn't pretty, you need to be careful and though it's obvious it is a lot of manipulation, you'll need to speak to his family and tape the conversations about his threats, I once had a relationship with someone who turned out to be a crazy person and ohh, it wasn't fun at all, it was a real nightmare, I don't know if he is still alive, he was also an alcoholic, but would disguise it, anyhow, you need to write down how he threatens you with this and make a journal, you need to even contact mental health services in your county and let them know if his family isn't available and just try to move without him knowing where.
That's the best advice I can give you.

Yes, the best thing to do is let his/her family and friends know that the person said they were going to commit suicide. Then people close to him will take care of him and you can move on.

Typically an individual who has really thought out Suicide and has committed to it will tell no one. They simply do it and succeed. It's really not hard to kill ones self if one really wants to.
Folks who advertise their attempt and fail at the attempt are merely seeking attention and a way to manipulate others.
These folks aren't the ones I'd be concerned about. It's the ones who silently contemplate and keep their feelings to themselves.
The Exibitionists just need to grow up...

Every time I have broken up with a girl, they have always threatened suicide. I just say "go ahead", but none of them ever have. I just call their bluff.

It happened to my daughter. Don't let them blackmail you into staying with them. We had to call the police to go talk to him. A person who threatens suicide to hang onto you is mentally unstable.

A while ago I dated a guy who, when I broke up with him, he called my best friend crying that he was going to kill himself. Needless to say, he is still alive.

Many times people will say this just to scare you into staying with them.

Tell the person's parents of this and let them deal with it...IT IS NOT YOUR RESPONSIBILITY.

This happened to me many years ago.I was dating two guy's at the same time.It was during "the Vietnam War".Dating more than one guy at a time was common then. This guy was not very stable. He was on medicine all the time.Well I married the other guy,and moved to Florida. The next week my mom called to inform me that the-unstable guy,had taken a shot-gun,into his closet and killed his-self.He left a note first...saying it was because I married someone else.True story.
