It's sad, actually. It doesn't make me sad, it's just... sad in and of itself. Sad that they see so many people as marked for torture. Good people. Decent people. Compassionate and generous people. It's really sad. And I don't think it's "sad" because I agree... I DON'T agree. I think it's sad to have that kind of outlook.

'Gary',
What I find the most stupid is that people continually act as though they are superior and correct. This applies to Christians and Atheists, and members of every other religion. Christians cannot see that Atheist have no desire to hear Christians preach their bullsh*t. Also, Atheists do not believe in a hell, so threats of damnation mean nothing to them. Most Atheists are just as generous, moral, philanthropic, etc. as Christians. Sometimes more so. And really, that is all that counts in this life, right?
Also, 'Mortgagegirl101',
Rarely do Atheists preach evolution and science. It is almost always brought up by creationists and religious radicals. We merely argue our point. The only exception is the debate over whether evolution should be taught in schools. Science, the Big Bang, and evolution have been taught in schools for a very long time. Who makes the decisions to include these in the curriculums? Learned people, and, in fact (although I'm sure you'll deny it) mostly Christians. They have realized the logical route.

Then why, by the same token, do you not know we have heard it all before when you tell us about the big bang theory or evolution? Do you comprehend the concept of belief? Or do you think we are suddenly going to agree with you one day when all you have are the same arguments people have been using to try to disprove God for all these years?

"i don't think they comprehend the concept of non-belief"
You got that right!! They literally are so deeply entrenched in their way of thinking that they can't conceive of the possibility that they have been deluded their entire life. Generally they don't even have the critical thinking skills to rationally argue their viewpoint. Yet they are convinced that they are right.
I have a Christian friend who is very smart, has never once implied that I was going to hell, and has been able to do a pretty good job of defending most of his beliefs. He also really does volunteer his time to help the needy and underpriviledged. It's really a shame that more Christians aren't like him.

I think it is funny too. I mostly come here for the amusement of it all since I couldn't care less what they think of me.
They absolutely don't get the concept at all. I bet you see some idiot post Pascal's Wager here at least five times a day. And the thing that really gets me is they think you are being rude when they ask you why you don't believe and you answer by asking them why they don't believe in fairies. They think that we are just making fun, when in fact it is the same exact thing.

I do find it amusing. I can't possibly fear something I don't believe in. Hell holds no sway over me whatsoever. What defines my actions is what I hope to be a strong moral code. If anything, the constant preaching to me and damning me just cements the fact that atheism is the best choice I could have made.

It depends on my mood. Sometimes it's amusing, sometimes it's just irritating. You can't tell a closed mind anything, so unless they seem interested in learning something beyond their own beliefs, I just ignore them. Everyone has a right to their beliefs, but I do wish they would keep them to themselves unless asked. I do.

I believe in God but not in the idea of hell, and it still is amusing to me when they tell me that I am going to hell.

Just because you choose not to believe something does not make it so. I once lived in Newfoundland in 1972 and they did not believe that man had landed on the moon either... but that did not make it so... When you die and meet God, and you will, you will learn the truth and believe, but it will probably be too late. YOur opportunity is now. Laugh all you want, it won't change the facts.

Yes, I do feel like they are enlightening me on something I've never ran across. It's kind of like telling a child that if they're not good Santa won't bring them anything...hmmm.
No, I don't think they grasp 'non-belief', kind of like I can't imagine what China's really like...... I've never been there.
