Stay home and walk to the Library where you can find books to read. For your information, there is a life after automobiles and it is still possible to wear layers of clothes to keep warm.
Life has not ended simply because gasoline and fuel-oil prices have become out of reach.

Awesome, awesome question. Here is what I do:
I yell at my son after he has spent long enough taking a hot shower. I do not turn up my heat until the temp drops below 65 inside the house. I make everyone wear slippers, sweats and socks when my sons show off their skinny bones walking around in their underwear. Once the heat waves vanish, we use fans and leave the windows open at night.
I also replaced the boiler and installed all thermal windows when we moved.

Work around the corner from where I live. I do. I live on one street and walk to another to work. I used to do the hour and thirty five minute commute for eight years and financed a vehicle to do it. I ran the car totally into the ground in three years time and hated my job so bad that I had a nervous break down! I got smart and now have an old 89 VW golf with excellent millage and work around the corner from where I live. Works quite well for me.

I bought a Toyota Prius back in the summer of 04' .....Many people laughed at me because I paid a premium to get it......(approx 8,000 over sticker)........I knew there was a chance this country could be dumb enough to re-elect Bush....Guess I was right.....So Now I enjoy approx 50 MPG and go about 500 miles on one tank of gas..... Sometimes sacrifices (SUV, Minivans and overpowered sports cars) are a good thing to do for your wallet and nowadays the environment. One of the best decisions I have ever made

Have you noticed... the price of fuel is going DOWN..... but here's an idea.. make all the members of the Sierra Club and Green Peace walk everywhere that they go... that would mean more gas for the rest of us

try to do all of my errands in one trip
try to do all of my business deliveries in 1-2 trips if at all possible - haven't been driving to see my best friend out of state as much
finding more things to do at home or close to home instead of driving far away to do things on weekends
unfortunately I still drive pretty far to meetings quite a few times a month but there's not much I can do to change the locations nor the frequency of business meetings

Drive slower, you will use less fuel if you don't drive as fast. The speed limit isn't saying that you have to drive that speed, it just says your not supposed to drive over that.
